I have had this bill new from bank in 1996. Unfortunately it has gotten folded. It is still crisp as the day I got it. I was wondering if its worth more than face value. You can see the offset on the back. Dont know much about misprints. But I know this is not right!

Worth a little more than face - maybe $130? Problem is so much value is tied up just in the face.

I've held on to it for 22 years so far. Guess I will keep holding. I'm 52 my son is 4 maybe it will be worth more when he gets older

Buy him $130 in equivalent shares in Caterpillar or Carnival Cruise Line stock, that will be worth more when he gets older. Alas, the 100 will do nothing but deprecate in real value. That's the thing about high denoms, the face value badly deteriorates over time. If you'd have bought stock 22 years ago with it...

It will lose value over time due to this thing the government likes called 'Inflation'. Sell it now and get something with potential to increase. Due to the crease, you cut down its collectability.

I figured that. I'm not really trying to actually get rid of it. Like I said in a previous post. I have a son I can leave it to. Hopefully he will understand and dont take the path I see so may teenagers and young adults take. It will be safe until the value is worth selling or he will have $100.00. As long as I have it I will never be broke.

You could probably exchange it for a slabbed MS65 Morgan Dollar from the 1880's, which would probably seem cooler, and actually has a chance of appreciating in value. Who knows what a $100 in fiat will be worth in 20+ years.

I really don't agree with the $130 that was quoted by MEC2, but he knows more about it than I do. I only see a slight premium at best.

Oh don't go saying that... and I think I was stressing $130 as the top end... as in maybe you can get that much.

I was going on the fact it is modern, has a fold through the portrait and you can't see the next note on the wide margin.
The OP mentions offset, but it is not an offset ink transfer, he must be referring to the mis cut/off centered reverse.

This bill will never be much more than face value as it's not a misprint. It's been folded and shows wear in the center.

It's still crisp. I let a local coin dealer see it here recently and they where impressed that it's like mint except they said it is a shame it got folded. First year of that bill. They said I could get more than 150.00 for it. But that's what they would give me for it now. I told them the same thing. I'm not selling and was wondering if it's worth grading.

If somebody is offering you $150 for that note, take the money and laugh all the way to the bank. That's far more than it's reasonably worth.

Not gonna laugh. Means more to me than money at this time

And that's why we call it collecting! :)

I agree with Numbers. There may be the slightest premium here, but if a dealer offered you $150 (no offense) they have no idea what they are talking about.
I would take $150 for that. To me it is in the $105 range.

Guess it depends on who you are talking to and what area. Would you pay 110.00?
