You're going to get a lot of this response, so I'll just throw it out there: anything with a dead person on it.
I like to think that Liberty is not dead, yet. Very true, but the coins were never intended to really depict that person. They depict an idea. I don't really care to look at Jefferson's face.... I do care to think of the ideals of Liberty when I look at a coin design.
I've never been a fan of barber coinage, except the dime. In general, most modern commemoratives blah.
Susan B. Anthony for several reasons. 1. It replaced a cool design of Liberty that was already decided until some angry women's lobbyists demanded it be changed to a real woman for political purposes (that was the era of the ERA Amendment push). Here is what the SBA was supposed to look like before the women's activists demanded it to be changed: 2. It awkwardly still used the Apollo 11 mission on the back, despite the fact she has nothing to do with space missions. 3. Too similar in size to quarters. 4. Political discussion/comment.
I agree! You would think they would have a better design for the shield pennies and those dang 2005 nickel.. every time I get change and see a bison, it fools me for a second!! Lol
Not a big fan of Ike, Susan, JFK or any denomination that has not been accepted by the public for use in daily commerce.
I’m not a fan of most of the modern commemoratives. Clad coins? I’d rather forget those exist at all.
All the newer $1 US coins, the SBA, the Sac, and the presidential dollars all stink. I did like the Ikes.
I had never seen this before. That would have made a very attractive dollar...... Prehaps the mint could consider expanding Lady Liberty from our bullion and returning her to our business currency.
