Hello I hope everybody is doing. I'm a little excited to have found this Lincoln memorial cent (my first major find) and to be able to share it with y'all. The way I came across this coin is due to my father inlaw. We recently had to move him to a assistance living facility after a couple of in home accidents (fell and broke his knee was hospitalized for a month got released returned home for 2 hour's before breaking his hip and returning back to the hospital) ok back to subject. He knows my interest in error coins. He had an old empty water cooler jug that he would put his pocket change in at the end of the day and He gave it to me with it about 1/4 full and there is where I found this penny. I've attached some photos and would love to hear any and all feedback y'all have. I'm still learning here. Oh as for my father inlaw he is doing well and making new friends. Thanks for y'alls time and info and I wish everybody a Merry Christmas. Welcome to Coin Talk. Yes I see a clipped planchet as well. When I first saw the date, I thought, don't tell me this is a clipped planchet WITH a Wide AM on the reverse? No. If you are looking for errors, in the year 2000,1999 and 1998 you want to check the reverse for a Wide AM. It is an error. Something to use as a resource for when you are hunting through Lincoln cents is here http://www.lincolncentresource.com
It will explain more in depth the Close/Wide AM's that you should be looking for and also many other lincoln cents to check out! Happy hunting!

Your Clipped Planchet coin has a prominent Blakesley Effect. Very nice even though it is a zinc cent. The planchets for these cents are not made at the mint, in that respect it is not a US Mint Error Coin. Just a Planchet error coin.

Ok everyone, the clip is so prominent at first that was all I could see. After going back and looking at the photos again I saw Lincoln's face. I'm at a loss at to what caused the wavy lines from his sideburns down to his chin. Can anyone explain them?

PMD. Someone purposely scratched them on his face, IMO.

I thought that st first but looking closer it looks like it may have been a defective planchet.?

Wouldn't wide am cents be varieties instead of errors?
