Yes the vastly overgrade, and no, they are not a good service. But, I would buy the coin, not the slab. If you like the coin, then I'd say buy it. Phoenix
Okay - only post once - I have already replied in the other thread. So moderators you might want to split and join the threads - or whatever is easier for you.
OH NO!!!!! Somebody stop him!!!!! SGS is a bad word here at CoinTalk! They are notorious for overgrading. Retract your bid if you can and go to a better place...This is not good at all... Do a forum search of "SGS" and see what you come up with.
That bad huh? Well, from the pic I cant see any scratches...... but I have seen the same coin, but in a much more cameo condition.
I don't care what he's selling. I would NEVER BUY FROM SGS, GEC ETC. Why put money into the pocket of cr**K*. I've learned my lesson with GEC. If I buy slabbed I buy from the top 3; ANACS, NGC & PCGS. Why go anywhere else? Bruce
I agree with you on the first half at least lol... Better yet, don't buy slabbed, period. It's the coin that's worth something, the plastic with someone's grading opinion is worthless, regardless of the company.
With a sufficiently good image I could grade an SGS coin and figure its value. BUT I can't detect cleaning in an image unless it's blatantly obvious. I'll pass on anything by SGS and most of the other socalled TPGs.
Perhaps laziness in grading ad authenticating for themselves? Pay someone else to do it? More than likely as a guarantee in sales to ensure a higher price.
