Picked up a nice group of beautiful coins

Yesterday I took the day off and visited my (not so local) coin shop. My first task is always going through their foreign "junk" bin, and while they had recently sold a lot of their inventory and didn't have as much to look through as I'm used to, I found some good stuff. Particularly notable was that they had clearly purchased a lot of coins from the same person. All of them were from the mid-1940s and in gorgeous condition, uncirculated looking, most having a shine to them. I tried to take some cellphone pictures that would capture the luster. Some were more successful than others. But here's the group. These were all 15 cents apiece, btw. Oh, the Seychelles coin was from a different section but only cost me 50 cents. Separately I got these three beauties. I can't get a good enough picture of the sixpence to show that it looks like it was from the mint. The South African farthing is the star here. I love the deep black color. It looks brand new as well. The French Somaliland coin is a design I just love. I think each of these was three or four dollars. 3 coins.jpg south africa.jpg sixpence.jpg

Amazing coins and especially love the Seychelles.

My local shop has a $1 bin (sometimes with small silver coins) and a $5 for 25 bin. Sometimes I like to pick up coins from those bins and just look up their values.

Nice four Hungarian issues in there. The 10 and 20 filler look to be the alu-bronze composition (there are composition varieties for those dates). Nice first year for that forint as well, and I'm guessing a Horthy era 2 filler bronze. Can't quite make out the date on that one.

Nice group. Yesterday I ht my favorite LCS and got these (along with others). I got these for basically 13 cents each:

The best (in my opinion) of the base metal coins. The 1929 Belgian Congo 50 centimes has a 116,000 mintage:

The silver coins. I think one may be a blank planchet from somewhere and may be silver, but I grabbed it just in case.

I didn't have time to take pics of both sides, but the other one is a 1938 1 filler. I didn't have a chance yet to look any of those up to see if there's any value. I know you're the Hungarian expert here though.

Speaking of Seychelles, I'm kicking myself because I pulled out a 1939 silver 1 rupee and the dealer quoted a price of $4 and I thought it was too high so I passed. I came home and looked it up and they sell for much more than that and have a mintage of 90,000.

You got some really good ones. African coins are ones that I always scoop up when I can. I recently found a bunch of those Liberian coins in another dealer's junk bin but they weren't in as good of a shape. I still bought them though. Were the silvers also 13 cents each?

It happens. Once my LCS had several Soviet mint sets for $2 or $3 each and I passed up on them. Only when I got home did I realize my mistake...

I know the feeling as I have had the same experience. I recall a coin show where I had already bought 3 examples of something and thus decided to pass on the 4th. I very likely could have made $10-$20 reselling the 4th one. Oh well, it was a lesson learned.

Ah 1 filler. They look about the same. All four of them are common coins, but tough to find nice examples in high grade.

Yep. This dealer doesn't really care for the margins like this. If he's happy with the price, I'm good to go.

Plus, he recently had a complete, in the original box, 1915 Pan-Pac gold set come through his shop, so worrying about a couple small silver coins....

I find silver in my dealer's junk bin too but it's usually when it's really dirty and they don't notice, or small coins. I did find a small Turkish gold coin once, which is worth about $60 in gold.
