This is the pre-Seated Liberty group. You may notice that the Draped Bust/Small Eagle Reverse (1796-1797) is missing. Check your Red Book and you'll see why. 1795 Flowing Hair - PCGS VF-20 1806 Draped Bust/Heraldic Eagle Reverse/Knob 6, Large Stars - PCGS XF-40 CAC (I think there's supposed to be traces of an overdate but that'll take a closer look.) 1807 Capped Bust/Lettered Edge/First Style/Large Stars, 50 over 20 - PCGS VF-30 1837 Capped Bust/Reeded Edge/Reverse 50 CENTS - NGC AU-58 (Die crack on both sides; I call the obverse a "rainbow" and reverse appears to be 360° but will take a closer look.) 1838 Capped Bust/Reeded Edge/Reverse HALF DOL. - PCGS AU-55 Next up, the Seated Liberty halves.
Going through this "dog and pony show" of my type set has awakened me to the fact that I've missed some varieties. A few are obviously because of price: -- 1796 Draped Bust/Small Eagle Reverse 25¢ -- 1796-1797 Draped Bust/Small Eagle Reverse 50¢ But there are more because I was basing my set on the NGC Registry Type Set, varieties that they didn't include. I'll go through my Red Book closely and see what I'm missing and determine if I can fill in what I consider the gaps.
You will find that the overdate is quite hard to distinguish on the O-102 die marriage...consisting of a line at the tops of the 0 and the 6. By the way, I don't think I've ever mentioned it, but I really like your type set.
I like posts like this. I copy the information and put it in my folder with the coin's pics. The sometime I may get to check it out with my coin in hand. And thanks for your appreciation.
Well, you forced me to take another look. Actually, you have an example of O-105 (difference obverse die; same reverse die) which isn't one of the 1806/5 varieties. The recut T in LIBERTY is diagnostic. It is sometimes referred to as the large stars variety, but in reality there isn't much--if any--difference in size between this and the small stars of the other obverse dies. Hey, I told you the overdate was hard to see--especially when it isn't there!
