Well you said you have been collecting for many years. So have I. I still have my 1882 Morgan that I found at 8 years old now at 52 and still in the same condition that it was when I found it. I didnt have a reason to find out info on coins. But I thought it would be nice to leave them to my son and I try and find out what they were about. And maybe a price. If i thought i had a million dollar coin it WOULD be at auction. This site was suggested to me by a friend that said everyone SHE talk to was very courteous. I guess I found the 1 person that tells me " now write that in your book " what kind of person says that being " helpful "

I was trying to help! Not trying to upset you. PMD is an important thing to know in coin collecting! I was not trying to be rude at all! I really meant to write it in your book. So when your son is older he knows what PMD stands for.

 

Biker, mechanic,gun collector, 3 metal detectors, money collector, 2 pin pointers to many rod and reels to count. And a butt load of coinage I know very little about. Sorry that I got on your nerves. That's not me. I live in the south but I get a yankee attitude. Again sorry

paddyman98 is an error expert in my book and is very helpful to anyone that asks about their possible errors. sounds like you 2 have a lot in common. metal detecting and fishing.

 

Joe kool what is the coolest thing you found metal detecting ? curious here...

 

Out on a lake that we called a beach I found a roll of buffalo nickels or more scattered in a 2 ft circle. For the life of me I still cant figure out why they were there. No reason for it. Then once I was out by the river and found a bunch of melted metal that later turned out to be silver. Lot of people got really intrested from a local museum of course they shut that area down for a while and did not leak any info. Well then I started hunting fossils ( oh boy what a joy) I have so many fossils that I DID learn about. Her is just one!

That's just one megalodon I have several my angustiden and my whale canine is probably my favorites. I do have a tooth almost half the size of my head. That came from a mammal that lived millions of years ago before the elephant and after the woolly mammoth. Its definitely opposite of coin hunting. With fossils you try to find the perfect specimen rather than an error. Disappointed when you find a chipped or deliminated tooth. Lol

Even with coins, it is usually harder to find a perfect specimen than an error. Try to find a regular circulation issue of any US coin in MS70! It's much easier to find handfuls of die breaks, chips, minor alignment issues, etc. But I still like the minor errors.

I, too, love fossils, and always wanted to find a big megalodon like that one!

 

Now days Joe if you can take a newer vehicle apart and repair it and put it back into running order again, you are far from being dumb...No need to be upset, the guys were only answering your questions as they understood them. Bud and I have been there, in fact just yesterday I failed to photograph the Designers initials on a coin and was called on it...Bud laughed at me, I smiled and made a mental note not to make that mistake again, until next time.....Welcome to the club...

 

I've been to Charleston as part of a trip through the state as I was also visiting relatives. And interestingly enough, my local coin shop also sells fossils!

 

Thank you. I still have a long way to go and to little time. I love doing some things my body won't allow as I get older. I just had my wrist fused back on September 6 and it has been a rough ride. So I started pulling out the ole coinage and try and understand error and wording. I would like to take this one to someone who knows what they are looking at. ( not saying you guys dont ) but seeing it in person they would be able to tell me all the errors. I'm sure the pictures cant show all errors or maybe it does. I have no clue.

 

I bet they are high priced there. I'm sure if while you were here and someone with knowledge they would have told you. That we are a fossil goldmine. There a road here named after a phosphate mine. Where you are pretty much in the middle of that gold mine. It's crazy that we can jump in a old ditch here and find small fossils abundantly.

Not worth slabbing - it's worth less than $10 retail.
