Hey guys is this a rarity. I dont know what you would call the errors. I have had it since 2001. Is it worth anything? Is it worth sending out to get certified?

    Partial Collar Strike.
    Slight Misaligned Strike also.
Just put it in a 2x2.

    Value.. $3.00 - $5.00

Don't send it to get certified.

Cool enough to keep, but do not get it certified because the certifiying/slabbing part is worth more than coin.

So often the case that most beginners can scarcely believe it. Please try to stop thinking about have a coin graded as some sort of rite of passage or a merit badge that must be earned before earning one's sash. We're are all eternal Webelos here.

If you zoom in on the collar or spine you will also see a crack in the middle. Why should I keep it if it's not worth keeping. I am a amateur and I'm trying to learn so I dont post every single coin or paper I have. Which is probably 1000 in face value. What do people get graded. I posted a misprinted $100 bill and was told the same thing. I have many mint pieces that have issues. Here is just some stuff I pulled out. The one in question is an uncirculated quarter. Just here trying to find my footing!

Some things, even if they are what they're supposed to be, don't warrant grading. Grading is EXXXXXXXXXXXpensive to have done. It becomes worth it only when the higher grade it might be is worth more than the lower grade you'll get an offer based on, plus the all-in grading fees. That usually only happens when things are worth several hundreds of dollars.

But just 3 to 5 dollars for crack in rim, broad strike, and most of the ribs are partial on the rim. I may be say some of those things wrong. Please zoom in and look at my first pictures. Maybe I'm trying to hard.

No, I see it. But grading does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to enhance the marketability of that stuff. It is what it is, unlike a grade dispute.

The terms @paddyman98 used in post #2 are correct.

Because they are kool... Ok Mr. Kool?

I have been collecting Mint errors for 33 years.. I keep all Minor and Major Mint Errors. Never thought about "what they are worth".. I do it because they are simply kool!

What would the crack be called where it at? I at least need to write it in my coin book. Thanks for everyone's help.

See, "Joe"? Me? I couldn't give a rodent's rump about lesser errors. Not my cup o' tea. I'm trying a new Tazo herbal, in fact. But paddyman98 has his head on straight about it. The true "value" (not to get all Zen on you) in coins is not what they sell for, but the knowledge and satisfaction that "knowing what happened here" brings.

If you alter a coin the would be called PMD - Post Mint Damage..
Now write that in your book ;)

... also way harder than it looks like it would be. The layers are really quite attached.

Cant upgrade what I dont know. Maybe I'm thought of as dumb. Well we all have to start somewhere. I can tear your car or motorcycle apart and put it back together without asking you guys anything. You guys can put my coin/coins or paper down or build me up to keep up what I was hoping to be a good job. I did ask to have a snide remark about lesser errors. Like now I feel like this part of history I have to share might as well be thrown in the trash rather than even spend it. So what I might do is put it in a piece of PVC and bury it. Maybe in 200 years someone else may find it and appreciate as much as I did before I asked about it. Thanks for brightening my day. Feel like I should bury it all. But I do know that my very very very old silver dollars are were a lot more than face value even if they have errors. Which I will not look for

The book is for my 4 year old son. So maybe when he gets older he won't have to deal with this. Now you can smoke on that. I cannot believe your on here just to cause grief.

I really don't understand what you mean by everything you just said.. We gave you the answer and you get all bent out of shape. I'm sorry that I shared my expertise with you.
