I was reviewing this 1903 Morgan for a closed 9 when I noticed that the 9 and O appeared to be doubled. Enlarge my photo and confirm or tell me I am seeing things. Even my wife saw the faint impressions of the numerals being doubled. If it is then is it machine doubled? Thanks

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

There might be some strike doubling, but that picture is way too out of focus to tell you anything useful.

Looks like the entire date is strike doubled but clearer photos are needed.

I will work on a better photo. Under the microscope it is clearly doubled on the obverse date. Can't go out for natural lighting as it is snowing here in Idaho

The entire date looks affected, I can tell that. Get the pictures right-side up, too.

When I crop the photo it is right side up but when I attach it it flips. So I will try one upside down to see it it come thru right side up. Thanks again

Couldn't get a better photo today. Have a friend with a SLR Camera and will try to get it tomorrow

If you're looking through a microscope, point whatever camera you have through the eyepiece and take a picture.

There is only one known obverse with a repunched date for 1903-O, which was used for VAM 4 and 5. The 3 is doubled at the top, but there is no doubling on the 0. If that is not a match for what you have, then you probably have strike doubling or die fatigue doubling.

Upside down, right side up-won't make any difference if the photo is sideways, will it?

Which O is doubled? The O in ONE or DOLLAR?

When enlarged, I see doubling on the entire date.

    I see the doubled 9 & 0 & 3, so I'll recheck the 1 under microscope. Thanks

Not sure why I thought 03-O. Anyway, take a look at VAMs 12, 13, 14, and 15.

I went to 500 power and found doubling in the date, also if you examine the UNUM you will find that there is doubling in the N and the inner U, could be other areas also...

At 500 power, you're reading the dates on the coinage of the Whos that Horton heard.

IMHO, this is not die doubling. It is strike, machine or deterioration doubling...Spark
