Merp. Tomorrow being my 1 year coin talk anniversary I wanted to shout a big THANK YOU to everyone on the site! The knowledge, enthusiasm and fun I've gained from you all is priceless...in USD. Probably about 2 mil in euros (that's a joke and a favor to those of you who have yet to bid in an auction "across the pond". The Dollar to Euro ratio can be pricey if not observed). Looking at the numbers: I've posted just over a thousand comments and received just under five thousand likes. So I'm averaging about 5 (under that a bit and I know it) likes per immature comment or schwaggy coin I post. Coin talk says I am, at this point, worth 113 points. A couple quick questions: How many Denarii is that? And how do I trade these points in for said Denarii? Anywho, within a month and a half of when I 1st came onboard it was @Severus Alexander's anniversary. He did a very fun giveaway, that I won! It wasn't so much about the winning (its always about the winning) but more about the heart this place has. We can learn and share and give together and to eachother. It was an eye opener. And one of the many reasons why I keep coming back. That all said (shut up Ryro and get to the free shiz), time to give away a really amazing book that covers just over nine thousand years, or so, of activity on a small, but amazing, island called Cyprus. And a beautiful"ish" coin that was made there. Entering is simple. 1st: Have somewhere in America that I can send the coin to. I'm not against any specific country (other than music) but have 3 young dudes to think about on a plebs salary. Oh, and a wife with a healthy Amazon obsession. 2nd: Type "Entry post" if you dig Cyprus. New or experienced to coin talk. Young or old (I'm neither, so don't qualify for my own giveaway). 3rd: Share your favorite CT post, moment or coin. Whatever makes you smile bout da joint. And to whom goes the coin and book?? As my 2nd boys namesake will tell ya, "To the strongest." (jk. He's eleven months. All he'll tell ya is, "Goo goo ging ging."
Ahhh, the like to post ratio. I run about a 45%. With that fluctuating between 50% and 35%, depending on how generous people are with the likes.
Congrats. I think I've been a member for a wee bit over 5 years and have just went over my post/like ration haha. I also just recently have switched my focus from mainly CRHing to ancients within the last 5-6ish months. Not that it matters. I don't want to take away from a possible newer person and I have been quite fortunate lately so I won't enter. Just wanted to say congrats on your year on CT and very cool give away. I've enjoyed reading your posts lately and seeing the great coins you have shared.
NON-Entry, unless I gift it to another CT-er. Well done @Ryro ! Love your posts and camaraderie. Good stuff, great coins, super humor, nice write-ups, and THANK YOU for your participation... and HEY! Welcome to Coin Talk! LOL
Very interesting! I’ll take an entry post. The copper island is a very interesting place, even in modern times, from what I’ve read. My one-year anniversary is tomorrow. Maybe I’ll post something. I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the people here on this forum. Despite only being here a year, and only having met one of you outside of here, I still feel as if I know you all, as much as that is possible behind a screen. It is amazing to see what people own, no matter what area. It is even better to hear the stories they can tell.
..very noble of you Ryro...yes, santa claus is comin' to town bro...you really rock dude and i'm so glad your here (not an entry, but i like the book!)
Entry Post My favorite moments on Coin Talk was when I was doing an independent research project a few years ago, and a lot of the AWESOME coin talk members helped me out and answered many of the questions that I had =) Happy anniversary on CT by the way.
Given that it is late right now, after school tomorrow I will take a picture of my current favorite coin and create an entry post. Thank you for the opportunity @Ryro!
It's no fun to have a give away without entrants so count me in brother! If I win can I nominate someone to receive the prize? If that would be too much trouble then I'll just pledge a giveaway game at some point in the near future in your honor. The favorite CoinTalk coin, post or moment would make a fantastic stand alone thread all its own! Very generous of you @Ryro ! My favorite CoinTalk coin is by FAAAR ...Isiusiisiuisii and my favorite CT moment ( really the greatest moment in numismatic history) was when the only surviving coin from his reign was found. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/isiusiisiuisii.297628/
Happy Anniversary, Ryro! Great to have you here . You'll always be Scooby to me I normally don't enter such things because I'd feel guilty if I won, but... ...I hadn't thought of it that way so count me in Oh man I still laugh even thinking about that thread! Thanks for the fun, @arnoldoe . So many great lines... this is one of my favorites:
Yes @Ryro it's been very nice to have you here for one year (only one year ? It seems to me I know you for years) Happy anniversary It's not an entry post though, as I'm abroad, but I wanted to express my gratitude and applause your nice gesture Q
Entry Post! I also recently crossed the one year mark, though it hardly seems like it. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to be a member of such an active, welcoming and generous board. I can’t express what a great community this is, and how nice it is to be comfortable asking just about any coin related queastion imaginable and expect friendly, well informed responses, or to just share a new acquisiton with other people who will be interested (or admire what they have to share). So thanks to everyone who makes it what it is, whether they’ve been here a long time or are relative newcomers like @Ryro and I. The hardest part of doing this is, for me at least, picking just a few favorites from my collection. And that’s only counting the ones somehow related to Cointalk (or Cyprus)! My ‘favorite’ coins are always in flux depending on my current fancy. I’ve also been lucky enough to acquire some beautiful coins from my fellow CT members. I honestly can’t say that one is better than another, so the order I list them in really has no meaning! Here’s a beautiful as of Augustus and Agrippa from Nemausus that I got from @Gavin Richardson and shared on another thread recently: And here is a beautiful Domitian drachm from Alexandria that I got from @Brian Bucklan, a nice addition to my collection of Alexandrian animals: And lastly, since we are discussing Cyprus, here is the only coin I have from Cyprus, a tiny bronze of Augustus showing the temple of Aphrodite at Paphos, which is rough, shiny, and hard to capture:
I am so glad you enjoy the coin. It is a difficult coin to photograph; you did a much better job than I did with it.
Anyone else who wants to throw their hat in the ring has until tomorrow night. Saturday the winner will be announced. Thanks again all for the well wishes and positive vibrations!
