I am not sure if I overpaid for this coin or not but I liked the look of it and I needed a tetradrachm to go with my drachm. These ancients are quite addicting. Thoughts on the price I paid? $384 https://coins.ha.com/itm/greek/anci...848-36055.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515#
Beautiful coin - I think you did great. Looks like it may have some blue toning on the reverse maybe? Here's my lifetime: Macedonian Kingdom, Alexander III AR tetradrachm, 17.18g; Amphipolis mint, lifetime issue, struck under Antipater, c. 325-323 BC. Obv.: Head of Herakles right, clad in Nemean Lion scalp headdress tied at neck. Rev.: AΛEΞANΔΡOY Zeus enshrined left, throne without back and two leg struts, bright leg forward (archaic lifetime style), eagle in extended right hand, long scepter vertical behind in left hand, TE monogram lower left, concave field
Great example. Alexander III the Great (336 - 323 B.C.) AR Tetradrachm O: Head of Alexander as Hercules right, wearing lion-skin headdress. R: AΛEΞAN∆POY, Zeus enthroned left, right leg forward (archaic lifetime style), eagle in extended right hand, long scepter vertical behind in left hand, bow on left. Salamis mint, struck 332-323 B.C. 16.95g 25mm Price 3139 ; SNG Alpha Bank 662; Newell. Salamis 7. Lifetime Issue
Oh! Sweet! Fine style and nice toning! Looks great. I'm unqualified to comment on the price, but on a gut check, it doesn't sound bad to me, considering the quality of the coin.

Here is my lifetime tet Amphipolis mint. Price 6 My favourite feature of this coin is the Janiform vase on the reverse.
I do not know enough to comment on price. But the 5/5 strike, lovely reverse toning, and ex Spink make this a very attractive coin.
In my mind's eye, I always wanted to believe that the Januform Head on your Tet was a precursor to the rise of Rome! It obviously had nothing to do with that, but I always thought that device was cool on your Tet: RR Anon AR Heavy Denarius Quadrigatus Didrachm 225-215 BCE Craw 28-3 Sear 31
I've only had two ATG tets, both posthumous, both on enormous flans. (And one drachm, which was nothing to write home about.) This was the better of the two tets.
I affectionately called that one "Big Al". It was huge. @Aethelred wrested it from my grasp somehow- I forget how. (I probably owed him money, as usual.) It physically dwarfs the lifetime Babylon issue he already had, but both are appealing in their own way.
I'd love to see it side by side with a US piece for size comparison. You have owned or own some awesome pieces. The essai pattern is gorgeous, I'm quite envious of that piece.
Alas, that essai too is now a "bygone" - traded away. I really need to start tightening my grasp. Big Al was nearly silver dollar sized. 34-35 mm, as I recall. To my surprise, I just found the old pictures of the other two coins I mentioned.
Good deal, i think i was able to score 2: one of them Ptolemy VI Tetradrachm- super happy Was hoping to Get Ptolemy 1 & 2 AU- XF but those went above the price points i was willing to pay
I was looking at those too but they were higher than I had the cash for. Do you have a link to your wins?
