Please guess the grade of the following 1884-O Morgan Dollar by voting in the attached poll, thank you! As always, comments welcome.
64 shot 64+ - Gem surfaces but a weak strike even for an 1880s O Mint that precludes a gem grade. With the clean surfaces and the color, I don't think a plus would be unreasonable. Edited: I voted MS64+ in the poll.
Nice looking Morgan. The cheek is very clean and the field in front of Miss Liberty is nice enough to have gone 65+ but that large patch of rash in the field behind her keeps the obverse down to a low end 65. The reverse has nice color which I think offset the technical 63 of the surfaces giving it an overall score of 64. In all she should be a 64+ in my book. My mind could possibly be changed if I saw it in hand, sometimes images make surface look worse than they really are.
I voted AU58, despite knowing that the flatness of the hair over Liberty's ear was almost certainly the result of a weak strike. Taking into account that I am almost certainly wrong in my vote, I'll fudge it and say it's probably really a 63+ or a 64.
I like this coin and the luster looks good but the more i look at it the lower the grade got I think the reverse is 62/63 The obverse 64/65 The color might possibly bump the reverse up a notch. So, carry the 1 and i came up w- MS64
I'm torn on this one. Would have said MS64 except for wear (or weak strike as suggested) on ear, hair over the ear, and hair above the forehead. I like Liberty's clear face, reverse toning and overall appearance. I bumped it down to MS63.
I like it at 64, but I wouldn't be offended by 63+. The toning is nice, but it is on the reverse. The weak strike limits it, and there are quite a few contact marks. The luster appears attractive, but it is more of the creamy type frosting that doesn't usually get awarded as highly. The cheek appears quite clean, which is the only reason I say it has a shot at 64.
