I am looking at a ICG '69 proof 5c that is 100% mirrored field and element obv. and rev. Is this a common occurrence or just ICG missing the pink elephant again?
@Pickin and Grinin Not particularly a knock on ICG...just haven't seen many 100%er proofs 5c. Is it common? I'm looking at a table full of PF's from all 3 TPG and this is the only one of any denomination I see. Don't get me wrong. I have seen all TPG's "miss" the pink elephant before.
PCGS has graded 157 at PF69 NGC 292 I would suggest looking at as many PF69's as you can before buying, and it doesn't matter the plastic as long as it fits the grade. You need to be happy with it.
Thanks! But what about the mirrored finish all the way? Is that common, an error or should it have been noted on the slab label? @Pickin and Grinin
There are three different levels with proof coinage. PF, Cameo and Deep Cameo. If the devices aren't frosted, or do not hold much if any contrast to the fields then the coin is a PF. Yes they are common. Check out this thread. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/posting-jefferson-nickels-in-order-by-date.322759/
So @Pickin and Grinin the answer to the question are Graded and Labeled 1969-S PF69 with both field and element, obverse and reverse are completely mirrored with no contrast common ? I have 20 or 30 PF, PF CAM and PF DCAM in front of me and the only thing fitting the above description is a 1966 Kennedy Type 2 Silver Clad Regular strike produced by overpolishing the dies. Please advise @paddyman98
I would say they are common. If you look through these auction listings you will find some that look like yours. Click on auctions there are more. Cameo and deep cameo are definitely more rare on certain issues.
I sure like your handle bub...I did look at almost all of them but the really close ones were MS__PL. I'm certain your are correct I just enjoy interaction for the sake of my education. No arguing here. I did see a ATS slab graded PF 68 (Star) that had akot of mirroring. Do you know what N__ uses that star designation for? @Pickin and Grinin
The star I believe is for outstanding eye appeal, usually toning and luster combined. I am a bigger fan of the star, than the +.
@Pickin and Grinin I'm trying to get all the crash courses I can on proofs and proof anomalies. I'm finding so many odd features on my PCGS and ATS proofs and am in the process of liquidation. With guide pricing these days valuing many of my PF69DCAMS at $1-4 I'm searching for anything I can to increase their value if possible.I am finding bunches of OMM and RPM on these proofs, here's a crappy shot of one. Just trying to maximize my efforts
Before 1973 quite common, cameo and deep cameo proofs before 1973 are scarce to rare. After 1973 the mint began deliberately trying to make cameo proofs. After 1973 brilliant proofs (which is what you have) are what are unusual to rare. So before 1973 mostly brilliant proofs, after 1973 mostly cameo proofs.
I am really not seeing anything that confirms RPM's or DDO the pictures aren't clear enough. Use the two sites to help you figure out if anything is worth it. Most of the time when selling slabs the slab should identify the variety to get the added value. http://varietyvista.com/index.htm http://doubleddie.com/228401.html
