mexico error large.jpg Finally a legitimate error coin for my collection. That box of foreign coins just keeps giving.

    Hi,

I am pretty sure that this is a variety, not an error. :)

Keep searching, you'll find a nice error soon! Be careful with world coins, though, a lot are simply poorly made not errors.

Well close again. I try to stick with coins that have precious metal but the foreign coins are satisfying my need to collect and learn. All of the current coins were in a box of foreign German and Mexican coins.

It's true this is a variety but there are a lot of Mexican coins from that era with really severe errors. I have one where the image is only covering about 75% of the coin. I don't have any photos though.

I found this 20 Centavos and hope I ID'ed it correctly.

I got this Mexico 20 Centavos and hope I ID'ed it correctly. What do you think? I noted on the back what it went for in an auction March 2011. Also one coin is Ecuador but has a mexico mint mark so I'm puzzled.

Some coins from Ecuador were made in Mexico, so it's not unusual. Many smaller countries don't make their own coins, or didn't at one time. The U.S. has made coins for a lot of countries over the years.

Yep. They're right. Fun variety, though.

And modern Mexican error coins are pretty affordable overall, if you wanted a true error. I've seen some pretty dramatic off-center strikes for $15-40-ish.
