I have a 1970 nickel with no mint mark, I can not find anything about it? I have looked but it does not show one?

The P mintmark for Philadelphia was not added to nickels until 1981. Before that, the Philadelphia mint did not place a mintmark on any nickels except for the silver war nickels.

So then that means you have a Nickel that was minted at the Philadelphia Mint ;)

Yep, normal coin from the PA mint.

Except Philadelphia did not mint five cent pieces in 1970. (Knowledge is so fragile)

I have mentioned these 1968, 69, and 70 no mint mark five cent pieces several times. They are most likely either the result of a filled die, or an overpolished die that removed the mintmark. I'm not sure which, I haven't seen enough of them. I doubt it is the result of a die that just didn't receive a mintmark because there would be a lot more of them. Basically it is the same thing that resulted in the 1922 no mintmark cents, but they have never received the hype the 22's did, so few people know about them and no one really seems to care. Who knows, if someone was able to build up a stockpile and then promote them they might someday become the next 1922 "plain" cent.

If you don't believe me check the Redbook. No five cent pieces from Philadelphia in 68, 69, or 70.

I was collecting at that time! I knew perfectly well that halves weren't minted in Philly during those years. How did I miss this, or forget it?

Probably just that contemporary nickels weren't interesting to me, then or since. Still, it's a bit embarrassing...
