@kSigSteve has inspired this thread! Simple Rules: 1. Post a coin in a PCGS, NGC, Anacs, or ICG slab that was given the Artificial/Questionable Toning designation but you feel looks Market Acceptable or even Natural. (Let's try to keep it to one coin at a time) 2. Everyone has ~24 hours to give their opinion on if it is AT/QC or NT/MA 3. Tally up the votes...if more people pick NT/MA, then the poster earns 1 point 3b. In the case of a tie, the original poster breaks the tie; otherwise their opinion is not counted in the final tally. 4. While a coin is in play, whoever wants to go next, please just let us know in your reply.
First up is this Monroe Silver Commem that I used to own. (full slab is GC image and the 3rd pic is a PCGS TruView...just because it's available)
A quick backstory to why I chose to post this coin: it sold within a few hours of being listed on ebay at a price that is over MS 64 levels (but well below MS 65 levels). So someone may have seen something?
I'm voting AT as well but for a different reason. That blue-violet color scheme seems to rear its ugly head across every series of coin. Toning patterns on Commemoratives are all over the place. With a different color scheme and this pattern, I would probably be NT/MA.
Summary of results: ----------------------- Coin 1 - Monroe Silv Commem (pg.1) - 1 (NT/MA) vs 5 (AT/QC) ----------------------- NT/MA (holder is wrong): 0 total AT/QC (holder is right): 1 total ----------------------- Points:
Next up is this Silver Proof Ike (first picture is angled and under different lighting to show the color)....I owned this one too....more to the story after the guessing concludes
These Silver Proof Ikes see a lot of different packaging that causes all sorts of strange toning, but guess what keeps rearing its ugly head, that blue-violet combo. Whenever I see that color combo and it doesn't look right, I'm always going to gravitate to.... AT/QT
Get your guesses in as this one is still too close to call. @Pickin and Grinin @jtlee321 @ron_c and anyone else too (I tag 3 at at time as that seems to work best)
QT, but I can see someone wanting it anyway. I'm assuming on the Reverse that the colors are just reflections.
I have seen this pattern on quite a few early 70's mint sets. I am more inclined to say NT/MA. The coin may have seen some heat in original package through the years, but I wouldn't say that it was forced.
