Because PCGS said so, and their definition leaves no room for exceptions.

You are parroting things you don’t understand. Show me a coin that you own that was value graded and explain why!

It is absolutely an insult to call someone a fanboy. An observation would be that you inability to comprehend that is a charade to hide your cowardice.

Again, that is the rule, not the exceptions.

OK I will show you a Merc that was value graded. ICG Graded this VG10. Coin was cleaned at some point as the toning, color, and slight hairlined obverse indicate. But the details of the obverse and the retoning made them feel it was worthy of the Straight Grade. Was it value Graded? Absolutely. Even though it was lightly cleaned at one point, the eye appeal and coin detail suggest it would command a VG10 cost in the marketplace. Do I agree with ICG? Yes and No. Yes because some may pay VG10 money for this, though I would not because I prefer originality.

I'm sorry you took it that way LeHigh, but it is absolutely apparent that you just love your plastic.

Don’t you think you might be taking things a little too far?

But the “exceptions” are still problem coins, so coins in straight-graded slabs are not necessarily “problem-free”.

Not at all, I love LeHigh, and Coin forums would never be the same without him. Doesn't stop me from being blunt.

Circulation on worn coins especially heavily worn coins can and does cause "hairlines".

You don't think that coin has been cleaned?

What I might be seeing as hairlines might also be the holder. The glossiness suggests an old cleaning, though.

From just that bad picture no not convinced. I take plenty of bad pictures, I know how they can make things look cleaned or change their color ect. iPhones oddly enough actually take better pictures than a lot of point and shoot cameras.

That was my point. My Coin was market/value graded.

That isn't value grading. That is applying a market grading standard that determines there is an acceptable level of damage/cleaning/whatever that still qualifies for a straight grade. Do me a favor, define "value grading" for me, because I don't think it means what you think it means.

It's real simple, you insulted me, I called you out, and you continue to play games and insult me. I don't care if you think I am a kool-aid drinker. Grading is about trust. I trust the professionals at NGC and PCGS more than I trust self appointed internet experts like TypeCoin and yourself.

Since when can VG coins and lower have no ticks or marks or slide marks from I dunno being used?

If that is the new standard some are proposing they won't be able to afford the very few untouched pristine coins in old series.

This is what gets frustrating. What is true for MS grading or even AU grading is not necessarily for VG or G or AG ect

He's been watching me elaborate for days and watching you resist everything I'm telling you.

With respect to TPG graded coins, market acceptable DOES mean problem free. Your problem is that you don't agree with what they consider market acceptable. In that respect, you have and TypeCoin have a very good argument. FWIW, as a collector of mint state coins, you almost never see the crap that you guys are complaining about.

I don't understand why PCGS doesn't just put "Cleaned" on the label of that coin in the OP.

Because a hairline at MS-65 is 100x more detrimental than a hairline at G-4
