The original surface does not have the mirror-like finish that you see after a dip in the electroplating bath. And we can never have too many pictures.
Very nice, Kentucky...nice to see a true original steel, great condition and the toning sells it. When you get the chance, would you post a shot of the edge? Thanks in advance...Spark
I found my tube of BU 1943-D cents BU from a Reeves mail-bid sell. $42.50 back in the early 70s. You can see the edge and the dull steel colored core between the 2 surface shiny zinc layers. Jim
Exactly what I wanted to see...I have 12 steels but none MS to compare the edge...now I know! @Kentucky ...desertgem has provided the edge shot, but thanks again. Spark
Would that have been James. J. Reeves out of Pa? If so I did a LOT of business with him many moons ago, more so in comic books and some paper money. I think his daughter runs the business now and no more comics. He did do a lot with trains and ephemera which @dwhiz would have been interested in. His auctions were a lot of fun.
Yes, the same. I recall the thrill of receiving the catalog and spending pleasurable time looking over the offerings. Mostly no photographs which would drive many crazy today, but after a few small bids, I found him easy to trust and deal. The 1955/55 DDO I have was purchased from him and eventually went to PCGS successfully. Also got a nice 1864L IHC . So different then where you assumed most dealers were honest to today's ebay, Etsy, etc. Time , such a fickle thing~ somethings get better, somethings gets worse. Jim
My uncle Frank was in the big war. He got really screwed. At the beginning he just happen to be part of the "Civilian Conservation Corps" ... The "CCC". It was a great program for the time. It did however, unfortunately, get you the first seats on the bus of conscription. You were the first drafted to serve. I have NO idea why ... but he ended up serving the entire time the US was in the war. Anyway ... he did come home. He lived in the house I grew up in until his passing. He was very special to me.
