I was just curious. I search through all my change and anything I buy for these and other neat mess ups from the mint. anyone else here really into them???
I collect RPMs. On the cents. I'm hoping after my VF/XF set of Lincolns is done, and my BU R set from 34-58 with proofs is done, I'm hoping to "attempt" to do a complete set of RPMs. Or atleast as many as I can get, cause that is nearly impossible, lol. At the present moment, I have four. Phoenix
I currently have over 800 RPM's from 1909-2007 in the Lincoln Cent Denomination. It is a good hobby to have. If your collecting RPM's then you need a very large book.......... Rhubarb
i have about 3-400 rpm's for the lincoln cent, i like them the best. i also have 100-150 ddo/ddr's for the series. i also like the ike series. so many different varieties. the only bad thing about hunting these cents is the size of the coin. so many hours looking through a scope. im sure you know what i mean.
I don't actively seek them but if I see one I will pick it up if seller is not aware. Yes, I'll cherrypick no doubt. I've been toying with a set of 2 Cent RPDs for years. Actually any kind of RPD or doubling on any business strike. Very hard to find in small mottos or 1872 though and not shelling out the money for more of those dates. Spent enough.
That's the question I'm interested in. I have a few dozen DDO's and DDR's, most of them minor types you need a microscope to see. I have absolutely no idea what they are worth. www.coppercoins.com has values posted, but I don't think they are updated very often. They are way off with the ones that are important enough to be listed in the major price guides.
Dreamer94 had a nice post on this subject. Really what are they worth? As stated, yes, I do pick them up when I can cherrypick but rarely will pay a premium. I have a few REAL nice 1995 DDO Lincolns that I DID pay a premium for but without a glass my eyes don't see it. I also have 3 or 4 1871/71 Two Cent Pieces that are actually listed in Breen as either scarce or rare. I picked these up at prices commensurate to grade. No premium for the RPD just a good eye as it were. Assigining values on coins like these is beyond subjective IMHO. They are worth what you can sell them for. Just need to find the right buyer.
thats the tricky part. i have a few 36 type 1/2 ddo lincolns and some 1917 ddo lincolns. mind you they are circulated but from every where i read they seem to sell. i guess you just have to market them, i guess.
I collect as well as buy and sell most Error coins! I have not taken a count lately but I probably still have about 400 to 500 RPM's and maybe a 100 or so DDO's and DDR's left in 2x2's as well as a quite a few other type errors in 2x2's. I also have several thousand DDO's, DDR's, RPM's, RPD's, Die Clash, Die Crack, Die Break and Cud errors in bags and rolls that have not been cataloged and 2x2'd...including two BU Red rolls of 2006-P DDO Cents. Found the 2006-P "The Big One" DDO Cent but don't know what happened to it. I either spent it by accident, misplaced it or someone took it. I am hoping that when I get my Coin Cabinet organized and I can go through all of the Cents that I have hoarded, it will turn up as these are bringing a nice premium right now! Frank
I collect DDO's & DDR's, mostly cherrypicked. Some RPM's but for earlier coinage, like Barber dimes, quarters & half dollars.
I collect Lincoln cent DDOs, DDRs, and other varieties (small date/large date, wide AM, etc) but exclusively from circulation; I'll also cherrypick from a dealer's holdings, but what really fascinates me is being able to find these things.
I collect them all, especially Lincoln Wheat Cents. I get some pretty strange looks from people when I go sifting through the "take a penny, leave a penny" bin as I'm waiting for my change! I usually throw a nickel or dime in there and just grab all the cents out of the tray. Love looking for DDO's and RPM's, never had any luck yet with OMM's or DDR's. Most of the coins I look through (for example, a 5000 count bag of 1930's wheaties) are sometimes too worn or, for lack of the correct term, flattened out that I can't tell if it is actually "extra thickness on the outer devices", which most Wheat DDR's exhibit, or if it's from just plain old and worn out. Same with the RPM's. It's fun looking though, I have about 25,000 wheaties that I am sorting first by decade, then by year, then by mint, and then I will make full rolls out of them. It's gonna take me a loooonnnnnnnngggggggg time, but it's fun. I've found over a dozen 1936 DDO's and possibly some others from different dates. Anyway, that's my thing.
i have found some really neat rpms in the rolls of wheats i buy from my dealer. i look for errors in my change also, but no luck. i just keep looking you never know when an error is going to pop up.
