I think photography may also play a role here.

That might be it, but I just have a general iffy feel on this coin (which I can't fully place).

The Morgan I was NT but it seems Im too late.

The IHC I think has Blue Ribbon or something on it to do that but I feel my answer is MA

So you are saying that this coin had red areas which are still there and brown areas which have since turned violet due to exposure from MS70 that was applied selectively on the coins surface?

The second option is that the violet toning is the natural progression from red to red brown.

I don’t collect copper outside of type set coins but I’ve seen this color on both IHCs and Lincolns and I find it hard to fathom that every one of those coins were hit with MS70.

I don’t normally disagree with you Jason but I’m still in the NT camp on this one.

In my opinion which few probably care, both sides are right and wrong. Some yes MS70 can do but no where near everyone or all and that shouldn’t be the default position. On the other side it can happen but not as much as they say
Ipand it’s usually a glossy high point thing from my experience

Gonna go NT on the Columbian. Has the look of having been stored in tissue paper or something like that for a hundred years.

Why did you quote me? What coin are you calling QT? My last reply was several coins back.

There are so many deeply toned Columbians with really strange color schemes that I find myself giving most of them a pass as long as they don't show other indicators of AT. I actually like the elevation chromatics on this coin and only the color on the reverse seems questionable.

    I'm in the NT camp.

I'll go with NT on this one. If possible, I would like to post the next coin.
