Just one of those random thoughts I get.......................My first question is can a rim cud occur on the reverse of a coin. If so, has anyone ever written on the prevalence of which side they occur on in greater frequency? What are your thoughts? I've only ever found them on the obverse. Thanks.
Most occur on the Obverse side. Hammer Dies probably break apart more frequently. Here is one (CUD) I sent to NGC
Since anvil dies are enclosed by the collar they probably have a lower incidence of rim cuds than hammer dies which have the possibility of damage from contact with the edge of the collar during striking.
