Artificial: "made", an artifice, "intentional", not "man-one 25-to-life"...
    ...if there is no intent.
    Market Acceptable: the bottom line.

Nickel and Copper should form a battery.
An alloy of metals should form a molecular-level battery.
    Electrolysis!
IMHO, the only "natural" toning is from the "air", Oxygen (O and O2), Nitrogen (N and N2? unreactive), Argon (Ar very unreactive), and whatever toxins are floating around in the mint and leaving a "residue"... (CO2 ,an acid, "soot" , a polymer) et alia. After that, all toning is un-natural.:jawdrop:
Toning is deliberate, (artificial) or "not deliberate". (The jury of peers, "The Truth", the signed confession, the guilty verdict or... or... the belated posthumous pardon.)
Toning is market acceptable or not market acceptable: The bottom line.:D

If the "sniffer" had bleeding edge technology, all coins would be unique.

For those along for the ride in this thread, please post your guess clearly somewhere (preferably at the beginning or end of your post).

If someone does not want to guess, please write:
    “No opinion on the toning”
at the bottom of your post.

    Thank you! :)

I try not to comment much on things actively for sale, but if you look at the label colors the picture coloring is off so drawing any conclusions is a guess at best.

I can't believe PCGS didn't do the CYA shuffle and just return it as "Questionable Toning". By doing this, they lowered the bar and sent out an invitation to anyone with a kitchen sink.

It looks like the previous coin has run its course. So let's move on to the following Peace Dollar.

    Link to cert page:
    https://www.pcgs.com/cert/34980556

It's graded by PCGS as MS 64 and sold on eBay earlier this year; it's not my coin (I do plan on eventually posting one of mine :)). Also I would like to see @Lehigh96 post his SMS toned Cent eventually.

Just replying to you asking to see such a coin. Only took 2 minutes to find one, so it probably isn't an isolated incident.

This Peace Dollar obviously encountered some weird storage condition, but I collected toned Peace Dollars and these ugly colors and mottled patterns were the norm, not the exception. Additionally, this is a TruView so the colors won’t be as vibrant in hand as they are in the photo.

For me, this falls squarely in the NT/MA

Look at labels and how the slabs appear in pictures. Don’t take pictures at face value when those are off

My gut don't like it. Maybe OK, but I'm voting AT here.

I have seen a lot of funky looking colors and patterns on Peace Dollars.
Although not attractive I am going NT/MA on this one.

cant decide on that one if it came across my desk id probably err on the side of caution and QC it so that's my vote.

I think peace dollars are going to get hammered by the doctors in the near future with some of the stupid premiums they've been selling for and with how cheap nice gem + common dates are to mess with
