What's up everybody? I'm new to this coin collecting and after posting up what I thought were 2 error coins on here found out they werent. So I decided to educate myself on the classification of error coins also on the types of mint errors.....and found this 1988P error dime DDO on a proof mirror like coin (DMPL).....AM I RITE???
Hi there, very sorry, but this coin exhibits die deterioration doubling and is not a DDO. Also, I would suggest this coin has been polished. Even if it were prooflike, in order for it to be mirror like, the fields would have to reflect an image, like a mirror. You’d literally have to be able to see yourself on the coin. Very sorry for the bad news, but keep searching!
Also.. Look carefully at the field. Do you see those lines. They are called striations. They are caused by a worn die strike. That's what causes the doubling which is as mentioned Die Deterioration Doubling. It is a common find on Dimes. Considered Worthless Doubling.
