Do you guys try to time your auctions so they end when they have the most visibility? I was thinking about that and thought evenings might be the best time of day. I'm not sure about days of the week though. Any inputs?

I try to time them so they end on Saturday afternoons. Im not sure if thats the day they would have the most visiblitity. Im only really going on what day I would assume the most visibility. I figure the weekend, everyone is more likely to be home and on the computer. I figure Friday is the day most people get paid. I really dont know if this time is the best time, but thats what I try to do. And I live on the east coast, so I take time zones into consideration. I try to list my auctions so they end later at night, figuring that I dont want them ending too early on the west coast.

First off, I try to end all my auctions between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. I am not too sure just how much leeway there is around this time, but that is definitely the peak time for listing coins.

As to the day, Sunday is by far the most listed. However, I found a seller using stock photos who listed on both Sunday and Thursday. The listings were identical and for the same coins. Comparing 3 Thursdays to 3 Sundays, the Thursday auctions actually brought in more money. 2 of the 3 highest days were Thursday and all 3 Thursdays were higher than the following Sundays. I am sure that this is not statistical proof, but it is enough to convince me. As to why, I can only guess. Are there more coins per buyer on Sunday than other days?

Sunday night is great if you have stand out material, otherwise the huge selection will keep your prices down. Monday night is great also, the weekenders will see your items and wait, and I pick up more watchers on Sunday night than any other time for my instore items. Thursday nights are a great night also and are picking up !!

I typically list mine Saturdays or Sundays.
I havent really noticed much of a difference. Sunday might be slightly better.
Although, as other's have said, late afternoon - evening works best. Since most people are probably out for Lunch or Dinner.

When I listed a lot more my auctions ALWAYS ended on Saturday or Sunday about 9-10 PM Pacific Time.

I also listed a lot more in the winter as people up north spend much more time indoors and hence at the computer.

I generally buy in the summer.

    10 days

I guess there are pros and cons for all days. Sunday nights seem to be flooded with coins. A common coin can get lost in the madness. In past discussions of this topic I once read a strategy that makes some sense.
This guy said he lists all his auctions for 10 days and ends them on Sunday night. So you list the item on a Thursday night and hold the auction for 10 days. People see the item all through the first weekend and all week long. Then see it all through another weekend and are ready to bid it on the second Sunday night.
That seller swears this strategy works great.

You would be surprised how many (or what percent) do not even bother to look until the day they close. On my auctions, probably 2/3 to 3/4 of the hits are on the last day. These are not generally high dollar coins.

One of the most successful seller is nancye913. Whether or not you like his methods, he sells more Lincolns than about anyone else and he gets more dollars per coin than anyone else I know. Most of his auctions are 3 and 5 day listings. He started out listing only on Sunday, but now lists on Thursday and Saturday also. BTW - all night are listed between 8:00 and 9:30.

I think Sunday evenings are the hottest times for buying/selling so if I have a decent item I prefer it to finish on a Sunday between about 6pm and 10pm. Failing that, any evening during the week or saturday is also good..

perhaps we should do an experiment.
We'll all sell a similar coin, 1 ending Monday, 1 ending Tuesday, etc etc.
we'll see who has more hits and which sells for the most ;)

Similar coins will not work and 1 week will prove little. That is why I used identical listingS (actually 17 different coins) with stock photos for multiple weeks. Individual coins varied by at least a factor of 2 (and one by a factor of 17). One coin for one week will prove nothing.

BTW - the total for the 17 coins varied from $108 to $223. And that is for identical listings.

Glad I did not bring it, but it has been brought up on 2 threads in the last cpl days. Nancy, the blue washcloth guy has a method allright. Somebody post 20 coins from seller, not auctions, just paste the photos. Every coin looks the same as every other coin. I am not sure what it is, something is fishy and being manipulated, either the coins or the photos.

Excellent feedback gets to bury the bad comments. This is an accurate portrayal of my opinion. I have stopped completely buying from this seller as I like my coins to arrive looking like the picture, and they don't.

Even Seated Lib, and Abon have high positives, the numbers are misleading, look at the star ratings as well for item description accuracy.

Here is a link to others that share my opinion, not many, but the ones willing to risk leaving accurate feedback:

On the PCGS forum, there is a member who has demonstrated the photoshopped photos used by this seller. It has been done on another forum as well. Photo manipulation???? I am not an expert what so ever. Let the coin talkers decide for themselves.

Yes I watch some of his auctions [nancye913]. Somewhere on a forum I saw that his name was Eric?
Anyway that stuff is too expensive for me. And the coins all look like candy.
Anyway, I have tried 3 day auctions ending Sundays with mixed success. Some stuff sold well and other stuff got no bids. My problem is I hate waiting 7 days to see if my stuff sells or not.

And it was clearly stated in the auction that the coin had been cleaned. also so stated for the last 2 neutrals. His only neg is from thang1and2 who left a bunch of such feedback and then left eBay.

Oh, ok. I didn't look at the listing before posting. I'll have to make sure I look a little deeper before commenting in the future.

I like that toolhaus web site though. I bookmarked it. Thanks to AJ for that.

That is one of the problems with eBay feedback. The only way you can know that today is that you looked when the feedback was given.

The only thing I can point out on those pics is that the background color is different in the obv & rev pics.
That would mean that the lighting was different on each, or one (or both) pics were altered.
