Just wanted a collected opinion on this coin. ought it yesterday. My first Half Dime I bought it for the clashed dies. Also thought it had an attractive look. The clash really jumps out in hand. Grade - opinion? Thanks
I’m not a big fan of the toning on that coin but I don’t know if that photo accurately represents the look of the coin. As for grade, you know that circulated 19th century coins are not my forte but I think it would grade VF25.
I am gonna reshoot the coin, while trying to photo some proof coins I was able to find a way to get better color. You have been hollering at me to fix my white balance, and changing the WB shift was deleted every time I clicked remote shooting. I found a way, that should have been relatively easy.
What a change that made the coin goes from a very dark tone. It has a very thick skin on it. And probably an old cleaning. With a little light rotation. To a strait on bright blue on the perimeter.
The 1872 is known for strike weekness, so after looking at the rims, im going to go out on a limb here and say it is possible this coin is AU, or XF. Cant be certain without better pics though.
I don't see enough luster in your pics for AU, and the wear appears to be EF level. I'm going to call this one EF.
I was at an Xf. I thought there was enough wear on the head, lower area of the shield and LI of liberty. The upper area of the wreath is what I was having trouble with.
I agree Xf. 40 a very Nice h-10 ,and variety ,MPD-001 Valentine 7 broken top of D in united Nice find. Warning these can become habit forming!
Uncirculated is out of my budget, And it is really hard to find any AU and below with decent eye appeal.
My problem is I don't go after certain coins when looking. I look through all denominations for the coins that scream buy me. Either for the good price, great eye appeal, or a variety that jumps out.
