    Hello All,

This may have been discussed many times, but
which type of glove is recommended when handling coins?

    Latex
    Cotton
    Vinyl

Or are any of the above OK?

    Thank you for the info.

I recently was handling some presidential dollar proofs with cotton gloves and I noticed that the moisture from my hand caused some momentary fogging of the coins. That made me concerned that the cotton gloves are not enough protection.

I used vinyl medical gloves after that.

    Anyone else have that concern?

    Yep, cotton gloves.
    Make sure they're "lintless".
Photographers use them too when handling film.

Bare hands only. And by the edges. I tried Cotton once and dropped the coin. Now back to just bare hands.

    Are there thick cotton gloves?
My hands get pretty sweaty, so thin ones dont really do much...

Preferred method is to handle the coins over a table with some sort of soft covering.
I've imaged most of my collection without ever damaging a coin.

If you are not allergic to them, latex gloves are also acceptable.
    Don't get the powdered ones.

Latex and vinyl gloves will leave smudges on the coins. They are not recommended.

get a small rug get gloves from jp's and if you are uncomfortable with gloves practice them with junk coins. When the gloves get dirty get rid of them.

Take one of the new dollar coins. Handle it only on the edge as suggested with a bare hand. Give said coin a week or two and look at the edge of the coin.

    Cotton is the answer.

    I prefer cotton.
Latex is not confortable for me, for a long use.

I've used both cotton and latex, holding the coins by the edge. I try never to touch the flat surface on any coin with or without gloves.

Absolutely cotton, holding the coin only by its rim.

I use cotton gloves and hold the coin over a black piece of velvet, in case I drop it. I think you should NEVER hold any coin by the obverse & reverse, only by the edges.

Best method I've found is put some chewing gum on the end of a stick and use that to pick up coins. That way your hands will not touch them nor any gloves. :p
A drop of Rubber cement on the end of a pencil also works for picking up coins. :D
Of course if you put your coins on a small table and shake the table so the coin flips over, you get to examine both sides without touching it.
