The Inaugural Medal for the Spring National Battlefield Coin Shows™ has arrived!
The limited edition (250 pieces) medal features an ultra high relief portrait of
Confederate General Robert E. Lee in front of the Confederate Battle flag. The front
has the "S" identifier for the Spring show. The reverse features General Lee's trusted
traveling companion Traveler. This is the 1st in the series for Spring medals and the 6th medal made for the Battlefield Coin Show.™ 38.1mm in diameter and made of a zinc alloy.

Why was the lettering around the obverse done skewed?

It must be the first error coin of the series!

I took the medals to the Lavelle, MD show today and showed them to the dealers. They were impressed with the ultra high relief 3D effect. One stated he lived not far from a statue of General Lee and his horse Traveler.

And I'm a big fan of General Lee, but I think Longstreet has regrettably been forgotten. Had Lee listened to him at Gettysburg the outcome of the battle may have been different.

They really do! Considering it would have cost over $28 each to produce in the United States with the die charges, etc. in the same metal it is cost prohibitive. I make no apologies for having them made in China, because it stimulates the American economy. I teach in the business department at Shepherd University and I have attached several slides I use.

Hopefully they are marked "Made in China on the edge. And, these are cast in Zinc, not die struck.

How was it determined that there would be a confederate soldier on the coin?
