Yes it is such fun to wait to get a new one every few months. Although Meow is a little sick of the birds posing in different position quarters. Meow saw some pics of the 2019 quarters online, and they looked really interesting. Maybe except for the one that looks like a Spanish dollar.
Oh yea, And Meow keeps all the uncirculated looking 1965-1998 quarters found CRH too. And finding State and ATB double dies are fun too. Meow bought coin tubes for them, and has quite a few tubes filled with various quarters found CRH.
So far yes, But by the year only. Meow may separate them by Mintmark later, if there seems to be lot of a particular year.
That should be some beneficial figurin' for my sake, as I have gem 73 and 73-D quarters I've pulled from a Mint Set that I'm holding for the future.
These come very nice in mint sets though the Denver is tougher to find without marking and the Philly often has strike deficiencies. About 2% of D's and 1% of P's are very Gem. The '73 mint set has unstable packaging and coins that have left in it are often damaged. Most can be repaired with an alcohol soak.
Luckily, I found a set that was stored well and the two quarters are very clean and untoned. I have a couple 78s and 91s that are gemmy as well. I keep looking for the elusive 69s, non-SMS 65-67s and 70s, too.
Meow would like to share a quarter Meow bought, that was sold as a single coin still in Mint Cello. Meow took it out of the cello, and put it in a 2x2 snaplock holder. It has the most interesting toning pattern, and it was the reason Meow bought it. Meow calls it the "Flying eyeball Quarter".
And no, Meow did not draw on the quarter. It was still sealed in original Mint cello when Meow got it. Meow knows, mean ones here will accuse Meow of shenanigans. So will bite that kind of talk in the tail, before it even starts.
Those are pic taken 6 months ago. So Meow put that quarter away in the Cat hoard somewhere. But it was in the Cello when Meow got it. I just happens to be not one of the better ones in terms of contact damage from other quarters. Meow is pretty sure the reeds where a nice red to red/brown at the least. But it is uncirculated for sure.
Maybe it was a mistake, but Meow took it out of the cello thinking the pattern might be better preserved in a snaplock holder. Meow has another one too, same circumstances; Bought from the same seller. Meow might have pics of it in folder somewhere. It was not quite a dramatic as the one shone. Meow could look for the images for that too, if anyone wants.
Meow is pretty sure if one was to wipe it, it might come off. So Meow was very gentle with paws putting it in a holder. Meow's theory is that, the stamped devices on the quarter; Affects the natural magnetic field in the coin, causing it to tone with patterns that relate to the design devices. Don't you think it is neat? Would you have bought it if you saw it?
I wouldn't have bought it unless it was 25 cents. The outline around "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the built up circles in front of the chin just look too weird. FYI, got my kids a Calico kitten this weekend.
Is there a reason you chose to buy a roll of 1977d quarters? Is there something special about that year? Are there any quarters of the 1965-98 era, of note to collectors? Meow is wondering what to keep an eye out for.
I forgot to add .. this past weekend I added $16.75 worth of pre 98 quarters to my hoard. And another $25 to my post 98 hoard as a friend dropped off her amassed change (including dollars, dimes, nickles and cents) for conversion to paper bills.
A few are interesting in VF, some in XF, more in Unc, most in chBU, and almost all of them in Gem. The easiest way to determine the toughies is to just start a set from circulation. Of course it's hard to see the toughies in Gem this way. They are '82, '69, '83, '71, and '83-D. Very few eagle reverse quarters are "easy" in Gem but the "easiest" is '72-D. In my opinion this set is fun in any grade and will get more fun as they disappear from circulation and get more attention from collectors.
