I just completed the survey from the mint, check it out.
The 24K gold anniversary coin would be 1⁄4 Troy ounce in weight (this would be the only weight/size in which the coin is issued). It would feature the classic Sacagawea obverse (front) design, but displaying dual dates (i.e., "2000-2020"). The reverse (back) design would be a new design (yet to be determined) befitting of the Native American $1 Coin Program. It would be produced with a High Relief finish.* Other details are summarized below.

Weight:1⁄4 Troy ounce (Note: This coin would be approximately 0.866" in diameter)

Finish: High Relief finish

Edge Lettering: The product will have the same edge lettering that appears on the outside edge of the existing (circulating) Native American $1 Coins

Denomination: $1

Price:$420-$470**

Mintage Quantity: To be determined

**Pricing for gold coins is tied to the market price for one ounce of gold, and could vary dependent upon changes in market prices.

How appealing would this 24K gold Native American $1 20th Anniversary coin be to you?

An image of the 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar is presented below for reference. The 2021 Morgan & Peace Silver Medal would be the same in all respects except that it would not include a denomination since it is not a coin (i.e. it would not say “one dollar”), it would have smooth rather than reeded (grooved lines that encircle the perimeter, as seen below) edges, and the medal would feature dual dates (1921 – 2021). This 2021 1 ounce Morgan & Peace Silver Medal would have a .999 pure silver composition. Its price would be approximately $40-$45. The medal would be produced to a total mintage level of 100,000.



How appealing would this Morgan & Peace Silver Medal be to you?

 

Basically the size of a nickel. Bet that will be fun to edge letter.)

 

I really don’t like that they are making the Morgan/Peace item a medal. I would really prefer they did the same thing they did in 2016 for the Centennial series. Or heck, just make a Morgan/Peace dollar with dialing dates exactly like the original coin. Or with just 2021 as the date.

 

More modern U.S. mint granny bait....that in the end do more damage than good.
Not trying to be Debbie downer, however when you work shows and have customers walk in and try and sell a item that they over paid in the after market free for all.....Yes I agree we control our own choices and do pay for bad ones.
But the damage done to the hobby and the growth of this hobby is going to be felt sooner than later.
Again I get it we have freedom of choice but making the correct choice is sometimes hard to do if you're new to the hobby and not up on the pit falls of new item retail push.
Triggered by words like" limited production "and displayed in point of sales boxes or display cases that seals the deal.
I guess what ticks me off the most is revisiting what once was classic coinage,and trying to copy the new item never seems to work.
I compare it to 1950 and 60 TV the classic era of television which shows are copied to death by the industry until you're watching in reality an episode of 1959 "I love Lucy " only it is not in "black and white" and Lucy isn't the star!
I want something new,something fresh.....something that by all means should be better than what we already seen....IMHO the remake gold Mercury dime,SLQ,and Walker were very poor attemp to recreate a classic coin.
Hey it is 2018 not 1880 why is after a couple hundred years don't we get better?
Other world mints do a much better job of rolling out new coinage just look at Perth or the RCM items and compare the quality,and design.

 

I agree with the broader point that others have made: rather than obsess over gimmicks like limited-run rarities and non-circulating coins, perhaps the mint should focus more on updating our current coinage designs, hopefully with aesthetics similar to the 1916 changes for the dime, quarter, and half. I also think that they should seriously look into developing a legitimate circulating dollar (and two dollar) coin to replace the low denomination bills, like the EU did years ago. Sadly, I don't see this happening anytime soon.

 

Not very when you can have an original of either for about the same price. No offense to anyone that wants the up coming silver medal but I just don't get it.

 

Yes they aren't coins they will just be one oz silver medals in other words silver rounds. And you can get Morgan and Peace dollar design silver rounds a lot cheaper.
