The topic was using a coin and not oreo. Lets stick to the very specific application food saver bag usage of preserving a coin and preventing any tarnishing of any coin. This is what has been asked over and over and over. Let alone I have used this method for the last 30 years. You or anyone don't have to take this suggestion. It is up to anyone to find it themselves if it works or else suffer the consequences. Note: I have never had any toning problem for the last 30 years. This is a fact and an actual experience that works for me.
Nobody has the willpower to leave Oreo cookies overnight in a sealed bag. I have tried. It is not doable.
Robert I don't doubt your word, but it may not, and almost certainly doesn't, have anything to do with the bags you're using. I am not in any way suggesting to you or anybody else that you not use the food saver bags. The one and only thing I am trying to do is to get you to understand and accept that plastic bags, all plastic bags, are air permeable. See below. And if ya don't have any Oreos handy and don't want to buy some - use an onion. The exact same thing will happen. You will be able to smell it right through the plastic - after it just being in there overnight. And if it happens overnight, imagine what occurs over years.
But in the end, no matter if its right or wrong; Meow wants to put paws on the collection every once in a while. And coin condoms would just not feel right, reeded edge or not.
Haha, I think its funny. Reminds me of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Geez, I used to love that show when I was a kid.
Reminds me of Supertroopers when they pull the guy over and have to say Meow 10 times. "Listen meow, I gotta give you a ticket." LOL
Meow..... Look at CBS, thread in the US forum. He found a proof nickel on EBay that was sold not long ago. Just recently showed back up on EBay as a monster toned coin. The fact that it is still in the TPG slab shows the coin was gassed while encapsulated. So yes, protect your slabbed coins.
I would if I had the knowledge. I am truly a digital klutz. It is close to the top of the US forum called “Gassing Coins-AT”.
RAndy, at the top of the page on the right, click the search box, then type "gassed" into the search space, click title, then click "search" at the bottom of the box. the thread will show up. Even the digitally inept (me included) can do this.
Sorry for late reply. I had read it in the following thread. See link below. Again - for certain types of coins only. https://www.ngccoin.com/boards/topic/413214-re-submitting-coins-after-10-years/n

GDJMSP is right, even if the seal is tight, air can seep into the plastic itself. So it's not 100%, completely, airtight, but it does come closer to being airtight than other storage methods.
