Just wanted to ask what everyone thought about saving 1976 quarters. I have about $10 worth in circulated condition. Are they worth more as a lot, or are they worth face value- even as a lot? The coins differ from current quarters with their bicentennial drummer reverse, and dual-dated obverse (1776-1976).
I think unless you have a really nice MS copy, it's just worth face value. But eBay is always a good place to sell a bunch of them, I see them there in rolls all the time but unsure of asking price.
When I was in middle school, I once found a 1976 quarter with environmental damage, however, I spent it a long time ago. Recently, I started saving the ones in nicer condition. What about bicentennial halves?
Same for those. I have stacks of them. Some UNC. All are worth face value unless an error/variety or higher MS.
The silver ones where packaged. I have a sets of the silver and uncirc ones. I stole the pics from eBay.
Just does my heart good that the bicentennial coinage is getting a little attention. I was sure excited about it when they came out.... But no, the quarters will only be worth face value for a long time to come. Even though I have hoarded boxes of them.
There is a little premium for these but you need 100's of them to be worth shipping. I'd just spend anything that isn't a variety or better than nice MS-63.
You and thousands of other people. Hence the reason why they will never be worth significantly over face value.
Any example of this one is a keeper.... https://coins.ha.com/itm/errors/197...-11892.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
I know. But I look forward to looking down when I leave this party at the kids and grandkids going on a treasure hunt of sorts to find all of grandads boxes of stashed quarters.
I finally got tired of holding mine too, so I rolled 'em up and took them to the bank about 8 years ago. I still have a dozen or so.
I have a somewhat relevant question related to the bicentennial quarters: maybe about 18 months ago, I suddenly began finding a lot of them in change, many of them in very fine or better condition. This lasted until maybe about three months ago, though I did get one more in change recently. I'm curious: did anyone else have a similar experience, or was it just that someone in New Orleans who had been hoarding a bunch for a while gave up and decided to start spending them?
