Ok, while I get the concern of exposing what we collect to the general public I also find that because of those concerns no one but me ever sees my collections! the only way I display them is through digital pictures. So.... Your question got me to organize the pictures of my 1840 mint set. It's listed in the NGC registry and has been the most complete set there for several years. I like the year in part because there are so many 1st year issues but also because examples of most of the issues can be gathered without spending millions of dollars - including first year and somewhat available $1 and $10 coins. None of these coins are in my physical possession, all are stored in safety deposit boxes - and their value in most cases isn't astronomical anyway. Grades range from XF40 to AU55 or so. The collection features the somewhat rare 1840 (O) half dollar in a PCGS OGH and half eagles from each of the four mints. The only issues I would like to have and don't are the 1840 quarter eagles from the Charlotte and Dahlonega mints. They's too pricey for me right now. And I don't bother with dimes and half dimes - too darn small! I can't see them without magnification! About 36 percent of these have CAC certification, all have full grades (i.e., no "details"). Most if not all of them have already been posted here in one discussion or another.
If I were a thief, I’d be looking for 2-3 valuable coins, but certainly not hundreds (thousands?) of low value coins. But if you only collect gold coins or other valuable items, then I see your point... ...ok now let’s all sign up for Secret Santa and share our addresses
I see how you derived your name...... Absolutely stunning collection of Charlotte gold. I may use your photo as my computer backdrop.
Wow. That is amazing! I see lots of cash coins. What are the long and curved pieces? A type of currency?
Took photo at angle so darker appearing on bottom, but all nice BU: 41-75. These are my NCG collection of '60 DDO. D/D, Sm/lg Date. The 2 in the bag came from the original mint bag as others, but ruled" improperly cleaned " when obvious raised mint produced polish lines. I also have a PCGS collection of these, and their grades were consistent and no rejects. And my 3-L buffalo collection + 2 others authent. but dubious color All were purchased uncertified and sent to TPG by me. I have been very lucky Jim
Wow Jim, that Capital Plastic Collection of Lincolns is gorgeous. Can we get a closeup of the 1941 & 1945-S?
