1968 Chile 10 Pesos a bit light

Considered this coin as genuine, however, now I'm not so sure:



It has the proper density for pure silver, as far as I can tell, however, the weight is only 44.30 gm rather than 45.00 gm. "The World's Strongest & Most Powerful Rare Earth Magnets" slide off the coin (covered in the plastic pouch).

Other coins I weighed with my new scale are within -0.01 to +0.55 gm of their catalog weights. The margin of error of the scale is 0.01 gm.

Does that raw coin look genuine?

The highly reflective relief of the raw coin relative to the graded coin could be due the slight patina on the graded coin.

To complicate matters, 1975 Venezuela 25 & 50 Bolivars commemorative coins are examples of coins having tolerances listed on their certificates yet not appearing in any catalog:

Weighed a Jaguar coin at 28.27 gm and an Armadillo coin at 35.55 gm.

The rotation of the reverse of the coin relative to the obverse is approximately the same as the graded coin. Other features seem to be proportional, such as the placement of dots above a letter.

However, the raw coin also seems to have lighter typefaces than the graded coin.

Have I been had?

guessing it is within tolerance levels. the mintage in proof is 1,215 raises an eyebrow.... and with a value of $125 in my 2015 Krause World coin catalog. wait for more opinions...

Does the difference in typeface represent a separate variety?

 

could be a re-strict because some of them weigh 50+ grams. ???

 

The 50 gm ones are fakes. Molded tin/lead alloy. You can write with the edge, just like an old lead pencil.
