De Gaulle also could have altered US history in a big way if we had heeded his advice to stay out of French Indochina, otherwise known as Vietnam. We didn’t listen, of course, and the rest is tragic history.
Today I learned that there were tiny silver medals handed out as party favors at special events. The dealer had three types, 2 were Napoleon to commemorate his wedding and I bought the rarest of the two. It’s smaller than a dime at 14mm.
So you are an American of French descent, not French American. My ancestors came from Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland, but I am a Native American - I was born here - it is my native land. Similarly, the only African-Americans I know of is an old neighbor, Carmen Hall from South Africa, Charlise Theron, and Dave Matthews.
If you are Interested in the Napoleonic era, and if ever you have the opportunity you should visit the site of Napoleon's last stand at Waterloo in present day Belgium. I had the fortune to live for many years in a location almost overlooking the battlefield, and I never ceased to wonder and feel deep respect (and sadness) at what happened that day in 1815 as Napoleon's Armee du Nord faced the Allies under Wellington and Bluecher. Almost 140000 men facing each other, many of whom did not survive the day. A museum exists at the site of the Battle, as well as a panoramic exhibit. So much history..
Bonne journee mon ami.
I was just there in September myself and also went to the Louvre and saw the apartments. The really grandiose apartments are from the time of Napoleon III, though, not Napoleon Bonaparte. I don't think he had any apartments at the Louvre that are on display.
