    John Skelton Morgan man!

My wife found a coin auction that she actually let me go to! It was my first one and I really enjoyed it and will be looking for more near me. I picked up three coins and still came home with change. So I wanted to share them with you all for comments and critiques. This first one is a 1889 O Morgan and it was noted as being a weak strike. I know the NO mint was famous for that, but I can't see it, can you?

Weak Mint Mark strike? I see the O right above the DO in DOLLAR

The reverse looks weaker than the obverse

    "Weak strike" differentiates from wear.

For example, the highest point of liberty's hair - over the ear - isn't struck up. Nor is the point on the exact opposite of the coin, the eagle's breast. Either both sides (oddly) had about the same amount of wear, or the die pressure was just not quite enough to bring up that highest point.

The note was simply weak strike, nothing about the mint mark.
I did notice the breast feathers, but that's just wear, right?

    How?

Think about the minting process... two steel dies press on a silver disc. What possible application of forces would leave only one side of it weak?

I was just going off what CoinBlazer said. And isn't what you said about the die pressure go to a weak strike?

Is there a force difference between the hammer die and anvil die?
