Well I wasn't there at the scene of the crime but it looks like a felony to me. A.K.A., it's just damage.

Someone damaged it. Metal wires etc probably got pressed on to it as it pushed the obverse side out. Why? who knows, you'd have to be there to know exactly why. fyi, my daughter took a hammer to a quarter and made it octagon-ish shaped the other day for some artsy stuff. I should teach her how to use the drill press ...
