There is nothing wrong with that opinion. And if I happen to sell one to buyer who cracks it out - that is okay with me. I figured I could meet 2 goals by doing this - as mentioned before. I just wish my nephews would take an interest in the coins, but until then I will try to protect their inheritance a little bit. I don't mind spending my money on the coins, but I do not want them getting ripped off when they go to sell. A little peace of mind for me at least. While I appreciate everyone's opinion on this forum on the coins I post - it is not the same as having the coin in hand. Actually this thread is turning into a for TPG and against TPG - that was not what I wanted. I expected to be tagged a few times for my performance, but I posted the actual results so as not to kid myself. As spock said I got more learning to do and the best part is I am having fun doing this.
i wouldnt take any names but some of our YN here are pretty business savy and could afford to use ngc/pcgs for submitting a coin through a dealer and as far as i know they can and do take individual coins. the problem with what you are suggesting is a lot of people would abuse that program to get stuff graded for free. Only those coins should be graded that can take in the cost of grading as a percentage fee. In other words its a crazy idea to grade a coin worth $50-100 you are just throwing away money
Good rant. :thumb: I know you meant well with your post so don't take offense, but...just 'cause I'm a YN that doesn't mean I only have the means to buy low value common date coins...and I only send in coins that would indeed be worth the grading fees. Aka, not MS64 common date morgans. I do however use NGC instead of PCGS for the very reason of cost...it costs $99 for a membership and includes 5 earlybird gradings (5 day turnaround) which I think is very reasonable. I could just shell out an extra $100 for a PCGS platinum membership and get 8 free gradings, but I can't justify the extra cost for only three more coins. Again, no offense, just wanted to clarify. Edited to add: :thumb:
