Interesting 1955 Wheat Penny

    Ok so I found this 1955 wheat penny with the first number 5 in the date having some kind of extra to it. Not sure what or why it is like that. Thoughts please

    That's a 'hit' by another coin or object.

    See the flattened area? that's where the 'hit' occured.

    Sorry, but it's not an error coin

    what do you mean by a "hit" from another coin. Still learning. Haven't heard that term used yet.

    Damage.
    When one coin (or any other object) hits another coin and causes damage, scratches,etc.

    Do you ever let coins pile up in a purse or anything else that can get "hits" by anything??

    The damage could have initially happened any time in the past 63 years.
