@Curtisimo , running the tournament was a great deal of work. I want you to know that it is appreciated. I'm sure you had many many communications with contestants. Thank you. The writeups illustrate the types of interesting stories that ancient coins tell. Almost any ancient coin has a good story associated with it. Many have stories on the web. All have stories in books. A few good books can turn your coin from "an old coin minted by X" into an interesting story like one posted in this tournament.
Hello everyone! I want to thank everyone for their kind words, and especially your votes. This tournament has been very nerve-wracking for me, and I certainly did not expect to win. Especially when I saw the fantastic Rhodian tetradrachm @Severus Alexander entered -- such exquisite artistry at a bargain price and a signed coin too So I have been keeping a very low profile, and simply focused on researching my entries. Behind each coin is a story, and researching the history surrounding each coin is one of my favorite parts of this hobby. Being superstitious, I have not even been watching the forum (@Alegandron had to tell me I had won). I am delighted everyone found this coin as amazing as I did -- it is so special, and I still get a thrill every time I look at it and hold it. And I'd like to give a big shout of thanks to @Curtisimo – without his help, I would not have won this tournament. As most of you know, I am simply an awful photographer and Curtismo touched up my photos, hid their imperfections, and gave them all a beautiful dark violet background. We all owe a debt of thanks to him – Curtis spends an amazing amount of time organizing the tournament and assisting each of the competitors by proofreading and editing our entries. THANKS CURTIS!! @Severus Alexander, I only have 5 words for you: Don’t mess with the librarian!
ALL HAIL ANCIENTCOINGURU!! She will now be known as ancientcoinguru, First of Her Name, the Uncorroded, Queen of The Ancient Forum, Khaleesi of the Great Coin Talk, Breaker of Slabs, and Mother of Coins!!
I bought it at the FUN show. There is always a dealer selling supplies (I think Wizard Coin Supply, but I could be mistaken), so I was able to match my coin with the perfect sized presentation box while at the show.
