I left for work at seven this morning to do battle with the millions of leaves on clients properties.... Before I had gone beddy-by the night before, I had left a proxy bid with the Leu Numismatik Auction platform on a AV Herennia Etruscilla Aureus. The live auction was at 10:00AM EST (while at work) Anyway, I got home around 7:00PM, first thing was to check auction for prices realized. To my utter surprise I had won the coin for 6000 Swiss Francs This was redemption for loosing out on the Faustina I Diva Aureus a couple of days before (Morton&Eden) AV Aureus ND Rome Mint/ struck circa 251AD Empress Herennia Etruscilla/ Augusta 25-3AD wife of Trajan Decius 21mm./ 4.08g. Wow awesome coin and great win! I have yet to add a gold ancient to my collection -- but I am dying to do so in the very near future!
And here I had this romantic image in my head of you donning your shinning armor and holding your mighty sword to fight the Leaf Monster.
Great coin, the empress looks like she had a trip to the hairdresser. I have some smaller lot tomorrow and some next weekend when I will be out of the house. I hope my luck is as good as yours. It is hard to gage how much to bid when my bid is the only one before a live auction.
Ah, the gas-powered leaf blower! I once tried to initiate a campaign to replace the eagle as our national symbol with the gas-powered leaf blower (http://simoslife.blogspot.com/search?q=leaf+blower), but the idea never caught on. People are so resistant to change.
Our symbol is the majestic "Golden Eagle" . Stihl also is a German company, but our Eagle is supreme. For my coins, I would pick the eagle, for work the Stihl blower. In the end, the leaf blower makes me the $$$$$ to buy eagles German Golden Eagle USA 1908 "No Motto" Double Eagle ex: Heritage Auctiobs My favorite "modern coin" design
What a coin. I picked up a solidus of Justinian a few weeks back - my only gold. Nice find @panzerman and congratulations!
Yes, I know.... I was after the Herennia Etruscilla Aureus from the start, up till end, top bid was 4800SFRCS, so I bid 6000 and got it for that. However the Hostilian Aureus was bid up to 8500 and I was going to bid 10K, but I thought it would have gone way higher, it ended up selling for 9K. (should have gone for it instead) i can only afford one aureus per year due to limited coin budget. and that I also collect 1400-1900s, makes for difficult choices. John
