About two weeks ago, I posted one of my recent ex x6 acquisitions, a gorgeous Saloninus tetradrachm of Alexandria. In that thread, TIF helpfully posted a link to the x6 coins that were still available for sale, I ended up clicking the link, and surprise suprise, yesterday, three more of Steve's coins landed on my doorstep. Here's one of them, his C. Piso Frugi denarius. It has a really beautiful old cabinet tone and a deeply-struck, super-high relief head of Apollo. At the reduced price it was being offered at, I was simply unable to say no. Please feel free to post 'em if you have 'em! ROMAN REPUBLIC AR Denarius. 3.74g, 17.8mm. Rome mint, 61 BC. C. Piso L.f. Indeed, that is some excellent relief on the obverse and wonderful tone! Great coin. Mine is a little bit smaller and was transacted much more. Calpurnius Piso Frugi. Quinarius 90, AR 15 MM 1.8 g. Well done @zumbly ! I seriously thought to snare his Piso Frugi... but I already had 3... Mine are from an EARLIER Piso Frugi... They must have really enjoyed making money... Neat quinarii, @Ryro and @Alegandron! I really have to get one of those. I have to admit I'm happy I made the move first. I'm just going to have to post one of my other favorite Frugis on your behalf then. ROMAN REPUBLIC Extremely Rare. AR Denarius. 3.72g, 17.6mm. Rome mint, 61 BC. C. Piso L.f. Frugi, moneyer. Nice pick-up Z - I like that one a lot with the especially fast riding horseman whipping his poor steed. Awesome addition.
Another killer coin from zumbly! I always thought that was a great looking coin as well! Lovely toning, Apollo looks AMAZING! I need to reshoot my con of the Frugster, a bit out of focus.
Since a few of the earlier L. Piso Frugies have been posted, here's one of mine. I guess the ghostly broken-necked swan in the background also makes it appropriate for Halloween.
Nice x6 coin @zumbly . My favorite C.PISO has two interesting symbols: a Roman level and I think a silphium seed (even though most call it a leaf or unknown). The weight on a level would look like one of these:
Definitely a sweet deal! A Frugi of this type (or several of this type) remains on my wish list. Other Frugis in my collection include one of my favorite Republican denarii (at a steal of a price) and a new not-previously-shown quinarius, my first of this denomination: ROMAN REPUBLIC, M. I remember the super deal you scored on that M Piso Frugi, TIF. It's such a beauty, and I'm still jealous!
