I did. I allows me to collect the years coins in silver. All in one shopping in a sense. Here’s a crude photo of them I'll stare at them for half an hour. Pull them from the display box and store them away. I've been collecting the Limited Edition Sets for a few years, I should go and buy the earlier ones too (sooner or later).
For some reason I also collect Silver Kennedy Half Dollars, and I think the Limited Edition set and Silver Proof & Reverse Silver Proof sets are the only ones with them. Although they are repetitive, and of course I have all of them.
I agree. I, too, have all the Kennedys and I think this is the only place to get this particular Kennedy. Corrections welcome.
The Limited Edition Proof sets are very nice but, only a few have or will increase considerably in value. Although the 2012 is supposedly expensive for the Kennedy, its not that rare. Then, the 2016 is off the charts and no real reason is given. Personally, I purchase low mintage yet, this is not a great method either as the 2015 P Harry S Truman Presidential Coin & Chronicles Set value is off the charts due to low mintage but, it isn't popular so...they aren't selling and over-rated. In short, be careful and purchase what YOU like and sometimes wander into low mintages. The 2 latest are the 2017 Mint Anniversary set & 2018 San Francisco Anniversary set as both are low mintages and very popular. I have both in OGP and NGC 70s. Go get'em.
I am also a Kennedy Collector maybe because I'm a Baby Boomer and was at one of his speeches, in Paterson, NJ, while running for President. I have a PCGS Registry set of Proof Silver Kennedy coins. One coin is keeping me from tying for the top set. From 1992 though 2018 I havery each coin in Proof 70 Deep Cameo including the Reverse Proof set Kennedys and the PR70 DCAMEO Kennedys from the 2014 set and from the Limited Edition Silver Proof Coin Sets. In other words I have every silver proof Kennedy made in PR70 DCAMEO except one, and that is the 1964. The highest grade for that year was PR69 DCAMEO and I have the PR69 Cameo. I don't see getting the PR69 DCAMEO in the near future considering it costs around $3,000. I guess PCGS decided not to include the 1965 through 1970 and the Bicentennial Kennedys because they were in 40% silver. The '65 to '67 weren't really proof, they were a hybrid SMS. On the other hand I needed the Hank Aaron hand signed 2014 Basehall Hall of Fame coin and at an average cost of $600 I didn'the think I'd pick that one up any time soon and I got lucky, someone started it on eBay at a low price and noone seemed to notice, I got that one for $228.
The Limited Edition Silver Proof sets are labeled as such, so for a proof silver Kennedy Registry collector they are considered a different coin and needed coin for the Registry.
Nope, I passed on them this year, but I have all the past years. I might pick one up later just to have a complete set.
Yeah tell me about it. I was devastated when I sold all my ASEs in congratulations cardboard last fall for horrific profit. Total gimmick.
Exact same coins, different label. Are you collecting coins? Or labels? (Of course I don't consider either of them coins because they were not made intended to be used as money, so I don't need either of them.)
This is a little different though isn't it? Are you talking about the S proof Eagle? The one that had the S mint mark for the first time? The one they only minted 125,000 of?
It's the same Kennedy as in the regular Silver Proof Set , both minted in San Francisco. If you send it in to be certified, you have to send it in an unopened mint box to get it labeled Limited Edition.
I'm collecting coins, of course, but to be in the PCGS Registry you have to follow their rules and they consider them different coins and they go by the label. You submit the serial number on the slab and they have it on file and know what set it comes from.
