Plated? They wouldn't have slabbed it if it was plated...silly!

 

I mean the picture makes it look like it's plated maybe because of the lighting..

As far as zinc cents go this is one of the best I have ever seen.

Joe, that NGC coin is a good example of how
I describe genuine vrs. altered zinc cents:

1. If it's dark, dull and grey, it's been de-plated

2. If it's bright and shiny, it's been re-plated.

3. A genuine Unplated Zinc cent should have luster,
and look similar (but different) from a BU Steel Cent.

The NGC coin fits #3......and, imo, these are much rarer
than most error collectors think - one of the reasons they
don't bring much is all of the altered pieces (#1 & #2 above)
that are offered, or believed, to be genuine unplated zinc cents.

In this condition and this nice certified, around 200

 

I'd range it at least $225-$250 due to the grade,
which is the highest I recall seeing for this
error.
