I’ve gone back to that original listing four times. I thought I was from Minnesota but maybe it’s Missouri: isn’t it odd that the poorest photo of the group is the 1888? AND that the seller only has 10 to his/her credit? That cud by the “E” could be a well-placed hit, intentional or unintentional; who would know until that coin was in hand? Steve
Looking at the bidding history, I see that the underbidder lost by $0.01. That really must hurt. I see the bump under the 8. I would have made the gamble as well.
I dunno. Looks like the underbidder had been in it for a while, and put in a "nuclear snipe", but got out-nuked. The high bidder might have been willing to snipe higher if needed. That second-place bidder might be relieved at this point. After all, it's not 100% guaranteed the coin is what we think. (Although, after bidding in that realm, I imagine a lot of eBayers would be ready to game the "no returns" issue.)
