Anyone know anything about "Ancientground" previously known as coinauction12 and cycoinauction and littleprice12? Dealer from Cyprus.

Why what has he done? I have never heard of him to answer your question.

Just looking at some of the stuff he has and having doubts about some of them, and generalized paranoia about ordering from Cyprus. BTW he is an ancients dealer.

Yep, this seller in all his/her various names, is known as a seller of fakes.

You suppose it would be easier just to list the known honest dealers? I ask that with only half of a tongue in cheek.

Pavlos You pick out the big men. I'll make them brave!

He got cheap authentic bronzes with a lot of fake silver coins between.

I stupidly purchased a coin of Eukratides from this guy for "only" $33.00 US last year and forgot to check the fake listings before I did so. The coin didn't look quite right online and when in hand it really didn't look right so I asked for my money back which he agreed to right away. He didn't even ask for the fake back but I sent it back to him anyway. Just proves that if you have even the slightest doubt in your mind, don't buy it!

Yep lots and lots of fakes, with some authentic cheap bronzes and higher quality fixed-price coins to maintain appearances. Most of the fancier artifacts are modern fakes as well, I've bought a few relatively mundane ancient arrowheads from him that checked out but see he's selling fake ones now too. Best to just avoid everything from him.

I've bought from him, but only low value, and only within my area of comfort to spot fakes. I'd say maybe 10-25% of his stuff is fake, but he regularly sells the likes of fake Istros etc.

I give up. In the past many CT posts have listed honest dealers by name but we still get repeated post from people who prefer to ignore our warnings against buying from Cypress, Bulgaria or any other country where export of genuine ancient coins is illegal and cheating private collectors is something of a national sport. I am having a very hard time feeling sorry for anyone who buys things from unknown sources that should sell for $1000 but is offered for only $10. We also have sellers who offer genuine coins worth $10 and try to convince you that these are worth $1000 (some have been called by name here in the past also). I'm not sure if either is worse than the other.

There is truth in that. While we have people who work hard to keep up with the names to be avoided on the fake sellers lists, changing names to stay ahead is very common.

I agree that there is excellent advice on here on how to be safe (know the coin and/or the dealer, review the fake seller report, don't buy from certain countries, beware on eBay, etc).. there are also recommendations for excellent fixed price dealers listed for all to see. I certainly appreciate all of that information and have made purchases from those dealers and have been happy with the results.

However I do enjoy the variety offered on eBay, the quick turnover of stock, the auction process, etc. It's a lot of fun.. the point I was making is that good eBay sellers are not (or very rarely) mentioned.. it's hard to get a good list of reliable sellers. I guess it is to block out the competition? I just don't get it.. I will not be outbidding many here that's for sure.
I do not buy from the high end auctions as I buy inexpensive coins.. so eBay is really the only auction-like atmosphere I can take advantage of.

Do I feel that it is my divine right to have this information? NO

Would this information be nice to have and probably increase my enjoyment of the hobby? Yes... yes I think that would be awesome.

Here are the sellers that I enjoy following... some of them are members:
    frascatius
    cody111111
    cichosgladiator11
    andy_coins

Anyone - feel free to add to my list.... thx!!

People aren't withholding and there isn't a conspiracy. CT members have often post names of eBay sellers they trust. You just have to dig for that info using the Search function. There are many threads over the years in which people name trusted sellers.

Perhaps collating the information would be a good project for you or someone :). Gather recommended seller names (and the reasons for recommendation) and put it on a website you control (there are many free website hosts) and put a link in your signature line.

Yeah, he had a turtle coin that looked nice, I would love a real one and could even stand a fake that I know about if it is cheap. Just don't want to buy an expensive fake.
