That seller didn't come up with what they posted for the description on both coins.. He copied and pasted from some other website! Etsy is full of garbage items!

1953- I got an offer recently to get an "Elvis Presley" half dollar for free, but I would have to pay $2.95 shipping. So, I guess some people make business by plating, coloring, inscribing, etc, then selling common coins. But, its a strange to sell a regular half dollar for $3 and another $8 shipping. I got a 2016 half dollar at the bank for two quarters, not $11.

I'm tempted to contact the Etsy babe and tell her that she has an *extremely* valuable error coin... worth maybe $5k...

LOL. The names... "The Kennedy Half Dollar of 1980" as though there were only one made. It sounds more like a historical event.

Why is it any more idiotic to fish for a sucker than it is to be the sucker who snaps up the bait?

You are correct Okie, both are idiots assuming someone would snap at that rotten worn.

Oh, by the way, I like how the half dollar is classified as "a vintage item from the 1980s". I have enough stuff from the 1980s, but that does not give it any kind of collector status! Ha ha

Plus, what would make anyone else think it’s special? It’s a common year- non silver, and not a mint error. It’s not even uncirculated.

When was the last time the average non-collector saw one?

I find the average non-collector, when they run into a half dollar, does think it is something special because they have either never seen one or it has been a long long time since they have. And they jump to the conclusion that since they haven't seen them, they must be scarce or rare. Perfect set-up to bite at sucker bait.

I'm convinced most of these sites are about money laundering.
Guy makes 100K a year selling pocket change - pays taxes and is home free.

But (in the OP) both the half & the cent were "Favorited by: 1 person". :joyful::joyful::joyful:

Back before ebay and the internet, my sister bought "An engraved portrait of George Washington" she saw in an ad for only $3.00 + S&H. She got a postage stamp with GW on it.

I hate to laugh, but that’s funny! Glad she was only out three bucks.

I’m sure some jerk got wealthy with that.
