What would you recommend, to do with these coins?

Hello all,

What would you recommend a non-dealer/new collector, do with these coins?
Anything worth saving, selling and/or spending, for face value...?

Statehood quarter (Gold): One 2000 P, Maryland.
Wheat pennies: 2 BIG jars of variety 1 and about 30 individual variety 2.
Jefferson nickels, non-wartime: (30) from 1939-42.
Canadian coins: Mostly pennies, from 40s, 50s, 60s & 70s but also one 1950 nickel, five dimes (one 1942, four 1960s) & one 1959 quarter.
Mexican coins: Five Peso, three each of 50 & 20 cent pieces, from 70s & 80s.
Foreign and/or unidentifiable coins: Two dozen.

All circulated.

What is meant by "varierty 1" and "variety 2" on those wheat cents?

 

Per, 2003 Red Book:
"Lincoln Type, Wheat Ears Reverse 1909-1958...
Variety 1 - Bronze 1909-1942, 1944-1958...
Variety 2 - Zinc-coated Steel 1943, Only".

 

Look through the Jeffersons and see if there are any 1939-Ds. Lowest mintage of the series.

No, there are not any 1939-D Jeffersons.

 

I would separate out the wheat cents by decade. If you have many from 1909-1919, you may have some value depending on the mint mark and condition. The real value cents are 1909-S, 1909-VDB, 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, 1922 (no D), and 1931-S. The 1910-S, 1911-S, 1912-S, 1913-S, 1914-S, 1915-S, 1917-S, 1918-S, 1921-S, 1923-S, 1924-S, 1925-S, 1926-S, 1927-S, and 1928-S may also have extra value. The cents from 1930 to 1933 are also a little rare (depression times). Canadian dimes and quarters before 1968 have silver value. The 2000 gold plated quarter is probably worth a quarter. The Mexican coins will probably not bring much value. If you attach pictures of the foreign coins, you may find some value.

 

Just sell it as one lot on eBay.

 

I thought that was the second lowest mintage with the 1950-D being the lowest. Am I mistaken? I do get confused more now that I'm retired.

 

That is correct. I think many people think 1939-D is the lowest mintage cause it is the scarcest one in higher grades.

 

You are correct. The 1950-D was hoarded so there are more in MS grades.

Here’s an attempt at a group pic...Sometimes, it’s difficult for this newbie, to tell obverse from reverse, so be gentle. That said, what type of magnification do you all use to see the small coins?

Never had much luck keeping an account on Ebay. TBH, wasn't very active, when I had one but always seemed to have a problem, just logging in, after a while. That said, if you have any Ebay tips, I'm all ears.

I'm not a huge foreign coin person but have many of these coins. I'm thinking that you have less than $20 worth of value in them. Most of them are moderns with little more than face value if you go to those countries. It is difficult to tell with the pictures but I'm guessing that it won't matter much in the end. It will be hard to sell them unless you find the right buyer. I find it more interesting to show them to folks and invent a story of your time in that country

There are no dates in that range that are valuable. There are a few errors and varieties within that range that have some value, but they are rare. Post some pictures here of your coins for an opinion.
