well at least he admits its a copper plated steel cent so he isnt to bad however the price is a little high
I only paid $20 for my copper-plated steelie. (I bought it at the YN Auction at an ANA Summer Seminar so it went to a good cause in case you think I paid too much.)
anything purchased with the proceeds going to a good cause cant be deemed as a bad purchase or to high of price paid do you know what i mean
I think they set up at my local Mesa coin show twice a year...... We have a Mesa Coin Club show next cpl weeks, I'll try to meet them I know him, he beat me out of a roll of VDB's once, we just exchanged info, I'll see him at Scottsdale show next month
I've had three of those for about 40 or 50 years now. That used to be the big thing to Copper Plated them. Way, way back there was all kinds of rumors that there was no such thing but someone offered a new car for a real one. That started the craze to Copper plate them. Way, way back they sold for about $5. Of course this was in the 1950 area so $5 was a lot of money. As an example for those that were not here to give you an idea of coin prices, I saw 10 - 1916D Dimes in a coin store window for $1.50 each somewher in the late 1940's. I bought all of them and just can not figure out where I got all that money. I remember my Dad used to buy cars for less than $100 and only a few years old.
From the auctions description. "but one that appears to be a 1943 Copper Cent. Buy is with the assurance that this is a zinc (steel, as they are called) cent that has been plated." Zinc coated steel and what a steal this would be at $50. NOT.
My post was not about anything other than the high price, not doubling of any sort, I thought these were $2 coins at best.....
Got ya Jack. Did you ever notice that "reprocessed" steel cents tend to look like they are doubled as well? Reckon it's in the plating process. Have a chat with this guy. clembo
