I'm sorry you feel this way, I just cant give up based on the test. You are probably right, being a hopeful newbie is silly. I suppose I can dream, but, I will listen to your advice and keep my dreams to myself.

I recently saw the Aluminum penny from the Denver Mint 1974...selling for a lot of money. Why then, a 96% solid Nickel penny is not honored? I realized everyone says its plated, but, PCGS said its 96 percent solid Nickel. I will knock on doors. We keep it in the safe deposit box, and I never have time to delve into this, however, its time for me to contact the US MINT. We want my husbands Milk Box Nickel Penny to show collectors that it is indeed an error coin, not a coin some scientist at the Mint made to make money. If this were the truth, why was it in circulation and given to my husband as a little boy for Milk Money from his parents. They were not working at the Mint, just average people.

 

@girldly In your original post (Post#12), you said the coin was analyzed by SEM/EDS. Your cent IS NOT solid 96% nickel based on that analysis. The surface is 96% Nickel. Please reread post #13 and the link to an older thread that explains how EDS works.

You can also google EDS penetration depth or other similar search phrases to help you correctly interpret that data you have. Hope this helps

 

Who is "they" and how did they know? I honestly and truly hope you have a true rarity, but I sincerely doubt it. Perhaps @Fred Weinberg might chime in.

I recently came across the same similar penny. 1978 d bronze/brassy penny. Weight is 2.96...... still very detailed not worn down. Is this a coincidence same year and mint mark and weight is less then 3.11?

I have an MS70 1943 copper cent that looks like a shoe. I rebuke any statement to the contrary. This MS70 1943 copper cent looks EXACTLY like a shoe.
