    Here's my latest purchase: IMG_2811.JPG IMG_2816.JPG
A nice 1929 Capped Bust Half. A bit hard to see in hand (due to the slab) is the edge lettering. It reads"FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR" and there is a Star between "Dollar" and "Fifty".

And you thought the recessed edge lettering on modern Dollars was a new idea. Not so.

The Capped Bust Half Dollar was designed by John Reich, a German immigrant who became a Mint engraver from 1807-1817.

Can't imagine the price of that coin! Nice purchase!

I got it for a very good price. Just couldn't pass it up for the grade, condition, PCGS and eye appeal. In hand it shows a faint amount of luster in places. The low price was a no brainer. Difficult to find coins like this lately.

Bust halves are the best series in all of US numismatics IMO. They are an attractive design that is affordable in the higher grades.

And they're history in hand......what happened back in 1829?

Most notably, Andy Jackson was inaugurated as the 7th President of these United States.

I'm with you all on the reverse, but Lady Liberty on the obverse is a bit too masculine for my taste.

And the Georgia gold rush started.

Maybe but just a few years earlier we won the war of 1812 securing our independence. We didn't do it by looking like wimps. :)

I'm a fairly recent addict to the bust halves, but they can really grow on you. Liberty was reworked some through the years. Not to distract from the OP's coin, but the earlier coins looked a good bit different. IMAG0880.jpg

Love this series! Nice coin! I have also gotten addicted to these. I love to buy them raw, and usually go for a certain “look.” D3655D5F-A553-41AF-88CF-95D973AC3C2D.jpeg 105F5D81-1E01-441B-95E3-84B8EAC35313.jpeg

I started collecting these back in the 80s. After about 10 years, I moved on to something else. That was a mistake. The prices today are several times higher.
Now I'm back to collecting them again.

I hear you. And of course taste is entirely subjective..... I love her. She is majestic as heck to me. She looks ready to plow the fields and keep the kids in line!

Love me some Bust Halves too. Have a 23, 24, 27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36. Not interested in the varieties though. Anyone here a member of the Bust Half Nut club?
